I'm not allowed to operate a motor vehicle but I love camping, the scenery and the forestry.

So I was thinking, is camping even possible without a car and if so how?

If you are traveling to a campsite you would want to go with a person who has a car. There may be ways to go camping without a car, but in case of an emergency you really want to have access to a vehicle. Also, you have to carry all that gear, and I doubt you can really do that on the bus.

Otherwise, you could camp out in your back yard like we do as kids! That sounds pretty fun actually.

Yes, you really only have to get to your campsite somehow. There's something to be said for cycling, for example. You'll want an ultra-light tent, though; and at first you'll want to stay near civilization and always keep a cell phone with you (and check the reception to be sure you can actually use it).

Camp in a park?
I'd be afraid I'd get raped if I did that.

And what about Taxi, train and bus? Can these be of any help?

You're obsessed. :?

As for the OP, you can cycle and camp or walk and camp.

No! Sorry if I'm paranoid. I've every right to be. Guys here are creepy! I've been harassed at night, and chased and stuff. And my friend recently got molested.

take the train and the walk/bus/cycle from there. alot of coach companies go directly to campsites too and the tickets are relatively cheap

I camp by bicycle. I use two large panniers on a rear carrier, with lightweight stuff (sleeping bag and foam ground mat) on top of the carrier. LED lights, methylated spirits cooker and meals that rehydrate with boiling water give baseline comfort, and a frying pan for whatever you can buy locally.

Once you get somewhere nice, you leave all the stuff in the tent and cycle unloaded. You see a lot more wildlife from the silence of a bike than from either walking or driving.

Trekking clubs often pick up everyone in a bus, and head out for a weekend.

You could join a club. My bet is that a few undiagnosed AS people will be there too.

Also depends where you are camping. For example, I know that in France many campsites have tents all set up that people can book and use.

People don't really camp in Turkey. :( They just have picnics and then scatter their litter everywhere. :(

There's several ways that I can think of off the top of my head to go camping without a car [some already mentioned]:

+ Bicycle + on-foot trekking;
+ Going with someone else and joining their car;
+ Group bus;
+ Having someone drop you off and pick you up at a designated spot at a designated time if you prefer solo camps.

Here looks like a good guide for mild Australian temperatures, including a list of minimum required equipment: http://www.bushwalking.org.au/FAQ/FAQ_U ... weight.htm

Some of those lightweight tents are pretty nifty, I remember trialling a few while I was looking for a tent :)

It's a good idea to bring along a radio so you can call for help if needed, and also letting someone know your schedule ahead of time if you're going alone, so that if something happens they can be alerted.
