Check out the slideshow in this New York Times piece about a photographer who has created a series of portraits of his autistic son. The article is not ideal, but the pictures are great.

Click here to see the cool pictures

I saw the pictures in a magazine, once, and they were good. I hate posing for pictures, though, so if I were his son, I'd run for my life.

Brilliant photos! I'll have to read the article later.

Okay some pictures were nice, but some of them I can't help but feeling that they send the wrong impression about people on the spectrum.

I'm sorry but that's just how I see it.

Why is the child topless in most of the pictures and even naked in another? It just screams soft-core child pornography at me. I can't help but wonder if the father is a pedohile himself. Most parents do not do porn photo-shoots of their children.

The boy not wearing a shirt doesn't bother me, it's the picture of him without clothes that I find disturbing.

I will disagree with PunkyKat on the idea that the dad is probably a pedophile by the fact the man is a professional photographer. It doesn't sound like he wants harm to come to his kid based on the article. I will say that I think he was an idiot concerning some of the pictures which could be hurtful to this child later in life as well as could be used to paint people on the spectrum as subhuman.

Then again it could just be the fact I am from the Midwest and not California.

Why then did you say in a PM to be that you found the pictures questionable?

I found the pictures questionable, that doesn't mean I think the father had evil motives in mind. You could be right that he may have had darker motives. I'm giving the man the benefit of the doubt at the moment, though a link to his facebook page makes me wonder if it is darker motives like you suggest.

It also sends the message that it's okay to molest or abuse autistic people spefically.
