Torchwood is about the only one I've seen. (I can't stand Ianto though. Sorry. I liked the James Marsters character way better. )

i am not much of a tv watcher, so the only programs i remember seeing with gay characters were jody dallas in "Soap" [played by billy crystal] and sidney shorr in "Love, Sidney" [played by tony randall]. in movies, my favorite gay characters were Dil in "The Crying Game" [jaye davidson] and Hansel/Hedwig in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" [john cameron mitchell].

believe it or not, in 1970s prudish america, that program was banned in several southern cities, the local ABC affiliates declined to show it because it was considered indecent, which was pretty dumb because "mary hartman" made it seem like a children's show in comparison.

Being Erica - it has gay, lesbian, bisexual and bicurious characters, as well as an effeminate straight male.

america needs to have a program like that, but for some reason i get the impression it wouldn't fly south of the [canadian] border. we as a nation are always several years or decades behind the rest of the world, culturally. the biggest problem here [in that regard] is the timidity/conservatism of the big 3 networks [ABC/NBC/CBS], to any new ideas or new cultural trends. btw, the derisive moniker applied to NBC was "Nothing But Censors."

well, what we do in Canada is create a brilliant television show with our crown corporation broadcaster (CBC), then wait until it gets really popular - say, around to 2 to 4 seasons - then randomly cancel it with no explanation. there is sometimes a huge public outcry, but because the CBC is not primarily supported by advertising revenue, the lineup is usually not based on viewership.
