Walt Disney’s favorite song. One of my favorites too.

And Your Bird Can Sing
Beatles Anthology 2

Interesting theory.

The Beatles were well versed in American soul.

So Lennon may have been influenced by this hit by Eddie Floyd, from the same mid Sixties era to ponder the use of the American meaning of "bird" (we still say 'flip the bird' here) in creating a musical dig at Sinatra.

Cool song even if you dig it straight. But even better if you ...let your imagination go...as to what he is subtexting about.

I kinda thought it was about Jane Asher.

I'll check out yours.

Jane Asher was the budding actress who was McCartney's GF while he was still up and coming himself in his career. They had a quarrel which inspired McCartney to write "Im Looking Through You".

But why would he address her by saying "And YOUR bird can sing" in the above song in question when she was "his"(McCartney's) "bird" so to speak (going by British slang)?

The Eddie Floyd song only takes a couple minutes to listen too. But in all fairness I heard it several times before the naughty bluesy double entendre kicked in. Not only is "bird" not necessarily a "bird", but he uses "wings" in a way that echo older blue songs-as in the first minute and 39 seconds of this B.B.King classic.

In the hands of BB King its "earthy" to put it mildly. But Hendrix made it celestial and psychedelic:

Because Lennon wrote it. ^

I believe the Sinatra interpretation. I never gave it much thought prior to that, but assumed it was Jane. She and Paul quarrelled a lot about her acting / singing career, and she was from an influential family. He lived in their attic. He was known to cheat on her a lot during that time and John wanted him all to himself. He'd basically abandoned Cynthia and Julian by then and didn't want Paul tied down.

I can't listen to your songs as I'm still at hospital with my mum but I look forward to them.

.

Duhhhh! Lennon was the songwriter of course.

If Lennon were addressing Paul ABOUT Jane then yes...that would make sense. "You say you have been everywhere, and your bird can sing..." . Makes sense as a theory too.

Hope that your mom gets better.

Her dad was a psychiatrist who did psy op work for Tavistock and reportedly tried to test stuff on Paul.

That could have explained John saying you won’t get me etc. but after hearing their laughter on Anthology I’m quite sure it’s gotta be Sinatra.

I could use some psy op drugs myself right about now lol

I know where you went, but I don't know how you got there
Silver tongue hill, where you talk up what I'd play down
I would speak up, but I wouldn't know what to say

Put all five senses back to where they're meant to be
It's hard to tell, it breaks down
If there is a will there is a way
