Fonts. You use them every day. You read what they have to say. You might even admire the shapes of their letters, like I do. Do you have any favorite fonts? Do your tastes run more towards gothic blacketter or a nice, clean humanist sans-serif? Or do you hate some fonts as much as you love your favorites? Here's what I love:

Helvetica (especially the Neue Helvetica seen on Adult Swim)
Frutiger - the font and the work of the man who designed it
Futura (the quintessential geometric face now showing on HP and Chrysler spots)
Bookman (ITC or the very hard to find original, but NOT Bookman Old Style, which is a mix of the two)
Franklin Gothic (original or ITC, which adds lots of different weights and widths)
Goudy, especially the italic with swashes
Stanton, Smile and Litterbox: 3 wacky display fonts I fell in love with the first time I saw them

And I hate:
Arial - a cheap knockoff of 'Vetica which I even took out of my PC, I hate it so much

Plenty more on each list, but this should give you an idea.

I'm really weird about my fonts. I downloaded like a billion off fontfreak.com, and then my harddrive got completely wiped and I'm really sad to miss all my fonts.

My favorite regular font is Trebuchet MS, and I hate Arial, too.

I can live with the standard MS Fonts, but the ones that I really like are:

Eurostile (by Frutiger)

ISOCPEUR (Autodesk) -Especially the Itelic
ISOCTEUR (Autodesk)

A display font that I like to use a lot is Stomper (Test Pilot Collective)

An amusing thing my mom said when she was in a class discussing what font they'd use for their project:

"I'm using WINGDINGS!! !"

((She was surrounded by people geeky enough to find that VERY funny.))

Frutiger did a version of Eurostile too? Is it anything like Novarese's?

Here's what I have for the Copywrite info:

Typeface name: Eurostile
File size: 38 KB
Version: Version 1.10
Typeface Copywrite 1992 Fondaria Caretteri Svizzera Walter Fruttiger A.G. Data, Copywrite 1992 URW Portions Copywrite 1992 Micrsoft Corp. All Rights Reserved

For the Record, I also don't care for Arial, and use it only to display web pages. --I don't have the $$$ to spare to purch the Helvetica set from Linotype-Hell, Though I have practically the entire family for Mac.

Looks like you may have a copy. Here's some info on Aldo Novarese, the real creator of Eurostile, and another of my faves: Stop.

My favorites are brushstroke and "eroded" fonts - not to use them everywhere, but just for finishing touches like accents and first letters. Fonts like Viner Hand, Staccatto 555, IceAge, and Cataneo Swash.

Oh, and I love Optima - I know, I know, it's overused. But I love it anyway.

Thanks for the update on that. I know I have the Linotype-Hell version as well, but it's for Mac.

As far as display faces go, I like the stuff put out by some of the smaller founderys such as Chank http://www.chank.com and House Industries http://www.houseind.com. Test Pilot Collective also has some nice stuff as well. http://www.testpilotcollective.com

After looking at his site, I realised that I'm familiar with some of his stuff. Not bad. Too bad Bureau Destrukt is offline now, they had some fantastic typefaces in the day. --They were responsible for the display face on Radiohead's Kid A CD

Relevant questin: I've made up several different alphabets, is there a freeware program that can make them fonts I can use while typing that you know of? ((It has to be relatively idiot-proof to be of use to me, of course.))

Here's some information for you, though for the record, I've tried using Fontographer, and really couldn't make sense of the program.
