I consider myself to be a MAJOR fan of the rock and roll music genre. This includes (and IS limited to) the following sub-genres (yes they ALL count as rock): hard rock, heavy metal, punk rock, "classic" rock, pop punk (sort of), nu metal, rockability, southern rock, glam rock, hardcore punk, and progressive rock (in most cases). I love them all! Maybe not all the same, but it's all rock and roll to me and I like it.

Anything that's not among the above-listed categories - alternative, grunge, indie, pop, techno, post-grunge - does NOT count. Why not? Well just listen to songs from those genres, and compare it to those from the above-mentioned categories. See the huge difference? No? Well maybe we just have different tastes in rock music. Whatever. There is no actual right or wrong here anyway.

Bottom line is: I feel like rock and roll is slowly dying away from popular music. I, a devoted fan to rock, refuse to let this happen! >:C However, what can I do? I'm just one guy out of, like, 100 million - the majority of which do not care what happens to rock music. Cmon people, DON'T GIVE IN ON ROCK MUSIC!! !

Now don't get me wrong, I have NO disrespect toward any of the other music genres. I sure all the non-rock music groups and artists are awesome and just as talented as most rock bands/artists. For example: I may not like U2 for being so alternative and non-hard rock in it's style, but I do not doubt that the band deserves the fame and popularity it has received. It's just that I personally don't really like any of them (I do make exceptions here and there). All I want is for hard rock to come back to mainstream popularity, and for people to actually start listening to it again!

Who here is with me?

because people have drifted away from the charms of the warm fuzzie backbeat, and have embraced the cold-pricklie anapestic beat.

Wolfmother are recent rock and roll, and quite good IMO.

I can come up with more if you'd like, just give me a day or so to do a bit of scrounging about my music collection.

I find that a lot of modern-day "rock" music has been morphed into an almost unrecognizable pop format (example: see any nickelback song ever made). The music industry is a business, so they put out what sells big, and if you look at the top-selling songs right now it doesn't paint a pretty picture lol. Not to say there aren't good artists out there, but a lot of them get very little attention for that reason.

It's a pity you feel that way, I don't listen to rock exclusively but just over the last year I can think of numerous rocks acts that have been fantastic. Not all of these may to be your taste, but these are some of my favourite rock acts of the last year.

Rock & Roll seems to be strongly identified with the "Baby Boomers" - people who were born between 1946 and 1964. For instance, a person born in 1946 would be 18 years old in 1963, the year that the Beatles recorded and released their first album ("Please Please Me").

Now that the youngest of the Boomers is about 50 years old and the oldest around 65, R&R gets most of its play on "Oldies" stations.

Rock & Roll isn't dead; it's just facing forced retirement.

As I said before, in my opinion, THEY DO NOT COUNT AS ROCK AND ROLL! They are alternative, post-grunge, indie, pop rock, etc.- NOT REAL, HEAVY ELECTRIC, BANG YOUR HEAD, STICK IT TO THE MAN ROCK AND ROLL! As far as music in general is concered, I'm sure they're great bands. I have nothing against these bands, but they're just not rock and roll like Wolfmother or Halestorm or Rise Against. Those are the modern examples or rock and roll, not the ones you brought up.
