I am always anxious when I am in the situation of socializing/talking to people. Sometimes even with the wonderful slightly younger gentleman that I live with in this 32' fifth wheel trailer.

The sense of humor in it is fabulous. This is basically me. 8O Lately most of the time after I have had a conversation with someone I immediately have visions that I must have inserted my foot into my mouth again regardless of how I felt when those words were coming of that mouth.

Just thought others here would appreciate it as much as I do. We're Aspies but I am sure that most of you, like myself, do not take ourselves that seriously.

P. S. These emoticons can really enhance a message. 8)

There is no link or web address your post. If you tried inserting one, it didn't come through.

Does anyone else bother with the Social Anxiety forums? I have an account on one of them but rarely post.

I've thought of joining them before but I find that most of them aren't that active. If there was a forum for social anxiety that was as active as say this forum then I'd probably join it. Also, there's really nothing much that I don't know about social anxiety and the questions in the forums are usually the same kind of questions but the members are just random people that usually don't stay around. That's just been my experience with SAD forums.

I'm on a social anxiety forum and can hardly relate.

I think this one is pretty active and this is where I go to sometimes.

Sorry OliveOil Mom. It appears that it didn't dawn on me to include the link.

That's great! It really points out how unlikely it is that others think or care about us as much as we worry that they do. It was hilarious.

I don't have social anxiety but like everyone else in the world, I do worry sometimes about how I come across to people and I get embarrassed if I see someone that I've done something embarrassing around.

Remember, your most embarrassing moment, your worst humiliation, is just someone else's passing amusement.

Loved it! I have a huge problem with that type of anxiety, so much so that I can hardly function in life, but this puts it in to perspective.

Somebody just showed me this poem, in a similar vein.

We Who Are Your Closest Friends

by Phillip Lopate

we who are
your closest friends
feel the time
has come to tell you
that every Thursday
we have been meeting
as a group
to devise ways
to keep you
in perpetual uncertainty
frustration
discontent and
torture
by neither loving you
as much as you want
nor cutting you adrift

your analyst is
in on it
plus your boyfriend
and your ex-husband
and we have pledged
to disappoint you
as long as you need us

in announcing our
association
we realize we have
placed in your hands
a possible antidote
against uncertainty
indeed against ourselves
but since our Thursday nights
have brought us
to a community of purpose
rare in itself
with you as
the natural center
we feel hopeful you
will continue to make
unreasonable
demands for affection
if not as a consequence
of your
disastrous personality

then for the good of the collective

"We Who Are Your Closest Friends" by Phillip Lopate, from At the End of the Day. ©
