I can't remember if I've posted this already, sorry if I have! But it has changed my life. It basically says:

• Burnout and exhaustion are leading concerns for many individuals.
• Sleep alone is not effective in managing exhaustion and fatigue.
• Our minds and bodies need 7 different types of rest to feel refreshed and rejuvenated.
• Sleep is not enough. A vacation is not enough.

i.e. if you feel tired but sleeping doesn't help, you need a different type of rest. Maybe a rest from 'peopling'. Or from noise and bright lights. Or from constantly having to deal with problems.

From here:

https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/bl ... ejuvenated

Physical, Mental, Spiritual, Creative, Cellular, Social, Emotional, Sensory.

Yes I know there are 8 types there but they added a bonus one

Those are more than 'maybe' for me.
Especially with having ME/CFS on top of autism.
And half a dozen other incurable health things.

Interesting and very useful.

The emotional and creative rest are def something I’ll take on board. The others I already address… to a greater or lesser extent. I thought regular meditation would sort out all my problems, but maybe not.

Thanks for that.

I've got some of those too. But I never knew the types of rest had names. I thought sleeping would always make me feel better, but it doesn't. Sometimes I need specific types of rest. And now I know the names and what to do. That article gives specific ideas on what to do to get the rest.

You're welcome :) I didn't know there were different types of rest, I thought sleep and quiet were cure-alls. But they aren't! Knowing how to get that rest is so important!

e.g. creative. I spend A LOT of time reading, writing, editing stories and that gets exhausting after a while. So I take deliberate action to rest my creative skills.

Thank you, KitLily. This article articulates some of my experiences in a way that can help me take that needed rest instead of berating myself for needing it.

I don't even get restorative sleep. My brain isn't capable of Delta Wave, apparently.

*Still can't find that stupid report, but it has to be here somewhere.*

I get lots of physical, spiritual, creative, cellular, social, and sensory.

My stumbling blocks are mental (ADHD / trauma), and emotional (ADHD / trauma / alexithymia).

You're welcome everyone. This discovery has helped me a lot.

Isabella:
Did you read the article, it give ideas on how to get the specific types of rest. I've found it so helpful to know there are different types of rest and how to get them.

e.g. this morning I had to deal with my mum who is getting dementia. Her bank manager. A difficult shopping delivery driver. My husband who is not difficult but is still quite loud. So I'm listening to this waves on the shore soundtrack in my headphones. I feel much more relaxed. This is my favourite type of 'music'.
