Mass Effect 2
second team leaders
garrus or miranda
tech in the tube
tali or legion
biotic for the seeker swarm
samara or jack
and the crew escort
i used grunt and he lived so try that
Ah okay. Sorry for not paying close attention to those details. I will try those characters then. As for my final team, I love using Jack and Miranda. They are VERY effective against the collectors, while I'm going against the big humanoid Reaper.
Yes, ONLY Tali or Legion will survive the heat shafts to open the door.
ONLY Miranda and Garrus will survive as second team lead
ONLY Samara or Jack will survive as the biotic shield.
Most people will survive escorting, but a few won't. I know Grunt and Samara will as I've sent them myself. I heard from a friend that Mordin dies doing it. Not sure about the rest.
And of course not a damn one of them survive if they aren't loyal lol.
Lastly, plastic bottle caps, they're about 3/4 inch thick and work just fine.
Thanks for the tips. I thought Mordin was pretty cool, but he's totally useless at the end apparently. But has anyone used him for the final battle? I really like his incinerate power.

Here is a tip, make multiple saves, and before each major decision save the game, that is before starting, when in a break between waves of enemies, and if someone dies, just revert back to before you made that decision, it helped me get everyone to safety, even though I thought that Grunt or Zaeed and Grunt would be less likely to get shot and killed the Miranda would, or that Mordin would not be dumb enough to stick his head out in enemy fire. I just do this automaticly in most RPGs so I can go back if I found be decision was not what I wanted, even when it is totaly unnecesary such as in Bioshock.

Not sure in the 360, but I don't think you get the ability to make manual saves during the final mission. Someone dies, you have to restart the mission (not the worst thing in the world, but you can't change your choice for the tech or team 2 leader slots). I found that even with everyone loyal, Mordin and Tali were prone to die. I solved this by having one escort the crew back to Normandy (so long as they are loyal, they should survive with no casualties), and I keep the other as one of my squad mates for the last battle. It's seems to work.

I pretty much had Mordin and Legion in my team for the entire mission. Incinerate and Neural shock aoe is very useful on the collectors and the Reaper. Legion just tossed down the combat drone as a distraction and started head shotting everything with his personal widowmaker.

Not so. I know Jacob also works as second team lead.
I thought using anyone other than Samara or Jack for the biotic shield = someone in your team (other than Samara or Jack) being carried off by the swarm.
In escorting, supposedly any loyal team mate will survive, but it's not absolute. Why? I don't know.
I think the game works on probability along with factors such as the characters you use.
<spoiler>
My first play through and I managed to get half the crew killed including most of my team-mates by not upgrading the ship. I was beginning to wonder if I would actually make it through the cut-scene. And after that I deny picking up the technology and told the illusive man to get lost. (Interesting for the next game. Having not much of a ship, no weapons against the reapers and then telling the illusive man to basically get lost.)
</spoiler>
I played as an Engineer. I had mostly tech people in my squad; Tali and Legion. - I brought Legion on Tali's mission.
This video shows some funny quotes from Mass Effect2 (Renegade too).

Taking Legion on Tali's loyalty mission was absolutely awesome. I just kept laughing the entire time at the irony of it.
"Hey Tali, you're accused of treason by bringing live geth to the migrant fleet, how do you plead?"
"Not guilty"
*Legion stands quietly in the background, looking curiously around*
And the conversation options it brought up was also great. Definitely one of the best experiences in the game for me.

I would have never thought of this, because I am usually done with loyalty missions BEFORE getting Legion. It's because I somehow feel the game is like one slow-moving roller coaster that gets to the top of the hill, then goes speeding down. Once I get to a certain point it's EDI speaking to me saying the FTL drive is ready for a test-run, and I already have pretty much everything done. And the only thing left after the test drive is Legion's loyalty mission.
One of the funniest things I ever saw was Legion sort of break-dancing, doing the "robot."

particularly fantastic, I thought, in the case of the guy on tuchanka, where if you don't hit the interrupt he'll literally continue monologueing for several minutes, talking trash about how his clan are going to take over the galaxy... and the interrupt stays available the entire time, just tempting you with the option to incinerate him aaaanytime you start losing patience
and I also got, in one case, the blue sign just when I was thinking "awwwwww, give her hug..." all the more meaningful because the character in question is my Shep's love interest
I also got Legion, I like him, in a way he confirms some of my suspicions and I like his kind even more now, it was funny when asked about the exact reason behind his armour, first tried useing a too simple excuse, then I assumed pretended not to know. I got a good laugh when I walked in with him doing "the robot" (dancing).
I am resting it for the day and will do the final mission tomorow, and will start with getting upgrades and such before going, I also have chosen the Tali romance (interspecies FTW) as she is much better then miss perfect and psychic Ridick. I also feel encouraged to finish my other Mass Effect playthrough so I can play differently.
yeah, I loved getting Garrus and Tali back, though Garrus is definitely darker in terms of personality than he was, and that scarring really rams home the idea that bad things are happening and that they're going to have consequences
Legion... was more than I could ever have hoped for in terms of the Geth as people we can get on with and also in terms of a peaceful solution between them and the quarians
I have a brighter view of Jack than that, but I definitely wouldn't go there romantically, she's psychologically frelled up and like Kelly says, a relationship runs the risk of damaging her further
that said, my friend's done the full paragon romance path for her (as opposed to the casual sex renegade one) and it's a sad/sweet scene that you get
in my case though, like you say Interspecies FTW, The Talk from Mordin is priceless
...
It took me, like FOUR TRIES, to get through the derelict Collector ship. And that flying mosquito thing that shoots beams at me, dogs my rear-end wherever I HIDE, didn't much help!! !! This has GOT to be the hardest game I have ever played. Harder than Fallout 3 even.
What difficulty were you playing on? I beat the whole game on normal in 23 hours and died maybe 5 times, 3 on one battle because I could not figure out were I was supposed to go (not the ship though)....
Don't make fun of me, but I like doing games on easy level. I like to dip my toes in the water, not go the whole way. I do this until I am comfortable and confident for higher difficulties.
Praetorians are nasty on any difficulty, though it's possible to not realise this if you're using the right weapons/tactics
yep, I do have something of an issue with the romance endscenes, although it was great that they were very individualised this time, I can understand it in Tali's case though, big enough deal that she takes off the faceplate onscreen, and possibly Garrus' case too... could be tricky (even for Bioware) to know how to handle the turian nudity... though it's quite clear they do.....pop the heat sink, so to speak
y'know, the alternate one's actually made of even more form-fitting material, the colour may hide the crotch-hugging, but you can see her belly-button in it...
Thanks for the tips. I thought Mordin was pretty cool, but he's totally useless at the end apparently. But has anyone used him for the final battle? I really like his incinerate power.
well, I find that Mordin is fantastic against the collectors in the final battle if you've got incinerate maxed
Survival:
to not lose anyone in the opening cutscene you need to have the shields, hull and cannon upgrades, otherwise you lose someone for each of those three that you don't have (who you lose is dependent on who you take to fight the Occuli)
tech: tali or legion-and they die if they're not loyal
fireteam leader: Garrus, Miranda or Jacob [on both occasions]-the wrong person the first time will get the tech killed, someone who isn't loyal the second time will get themselves killed
barrier: Jack or Samara, anyone else will run out of juice too soon and you'll lost someone
escort: a get-out-of-jail-free card, so to speak, for a team member you don't think will survive holding the line-they'll be okay escorting if they're loyal
Holding the line: complicated, depending on who you take to fight the human reaper, people can die, (everyone's got a score for it-higher if they're loyal-so if the group isn't strong enough the lowest scoring ones (mordin, tali) die first. Everyone's chances of survival are improved by the presence of soldier types like Grunt, Garrus and Zaeed, the squishies should be fine if you've left 2/3 (loyal) of the above behind to hold the line, or you can take your favoured squshies with you to fight the reaper and thus protect them from holding the line)
falling off the platform person: if they're loyal, they'll survive
if you've got......any loyal people at all surviving (as far as I understand it) then Shepard survives

I thought this was a one-time oops in the book I have, but the hardback collector's edition is riddled with errors. For example, I just did the loyalty mission for Samara. According to the book, I would receive 2,000 iridium, but I have 500 element zero instead (which makes more sense considering it involves a biotic character). Did they do a rush job on the book or what? Anyone else notice any errors in the book?
