How do you style yourself?

My family, especially my sister and mother from time to time point out that I don't dress like most 21-year-olds. I am very neat and conservative in my style of dress and grooming. I rarely wear anything that has bright unatural colors, I a have strong preferance for earth tones (browns, forest green, grays, beige, tan, silver and blue-gray. In addittion I am fond of sweaters, turtleknecks, corduroy jeans and jackets, plated shirts, Dockers pants and shorts, loafers, and windbreakers. I also do NOT groom myself like most people my age, such as having my hair unaturally combed forward with my bangs standing straight up, in addittion to having excess stubble yet not long enough to be a proper beard! My mom tells me it's supposed to look "rugged", I tell her it looks homeless. My style is undeniably preppy and 1970s/ very early 1980s (1980 - 1983). If you watch the character Adam Raki in Adam (2009) , he dresses very close to how I dress. The reason I say close is that I dress and groom myself slightly more preppy than he does, and that is a feat! I am the only Aspie that is "behind the times" or "out of touch" with current style and grooming? I don't see it as a problem, I see it as a virtue!

umm you sound you dress nice. I like the "goth syle," nad ussually dress in it. my close need to be loose because I hate tight clothes then I just brush my hair nothing complex

I'd say my style is very colourful, not very conventional but I've always loved bright colours. I love dressing this way and likely won't change it. I wear a little bit of makeup but not much, I generally feel that some people spend WAY too much time on putting it on.

I dress like a 12 year old. I like jeans that aren't too tight, but loose jeans rub against my skin and make me feel uncomfortable. I like sport jackets and hoodies.
Dressing 'girly' makes me feel uncomfortable and fake.
I wear a lot of band t-shirts.
My hair is shorter than it is in my picture, but it's medium-ish (kinda a 60's mop) and I do brush it but like it when it gets messy.

I wear one of my eight pairs of black pants and one of eight copies of the same style of shirt, cotton underthings (sports bras only), socks, and tennis shoes. It's not really the same thing every day because the shirt comes in different colors. If it's cold I wear a sweater over my shirt. (Can you guess why eight pairs of pants? I do laundry on Saturday, so there are seven to wash and one to wear.)

I used to have a buzz cut, but my hair is growing out now that it's warmer, over the winter, so I pin it back out of my face with two clips. It's annoying to me because I know people don't like to see girls in buzz cuts, and I'm trying to get an internship, so I can't cut my hair short anymore. But now that it's winter, longer hair is a little warmer, so at least I have that benefit. I am starting to tug on my hair again, and hope it does not become a habit like it was before I cut my hair short for the first time. It's very easy to give yourself a headache that way.

Earth tones for preference. Loose is a must. Some favrics I simply cannot touch - they do to me what fingernail on blackboard does to others.

Have not worn shorts since about ten - too much exposure to critical eyes, plus sunburn and sticking to plactic seating.

I despise fashion - I had to live through the pegged pants era - any one else remember that? You could not get them on or off. Everytime I find a really wearable article of clohing, it disappears from the stores.

I generally wear loose jeans, loose t-shirt (mostly longsleeved) and sneakers I've worn for close to 8 years now. My hair's messy, I haven't combed it in...longer than I remember and I shave when the stuble starts to itch.

Loose jeans or shorts and short sleeve polo shirts. My hair is a mop. I shave everyday.

Comfortable and somewhat modest for me. I must mention that my modesty isn't for any religious reasons or anything like that, I just prefer it (plus, I feel really odd when I wear anything that shows much cleavage, even when I'm alone). Capris, jeans, long skirts, and shirts that are about 1-2 sizes too big for me are staples. I don't wear anything shorter than mid-calf, normally. I prefer natural fabrics (cotton and silk are my favorite), or blends where the natural fabric is the majority. Anything that attracts too much static is out.

When I'm at home and not expecting company, I'm nearly always in pajamas.

My hair is shoulder-length now, and almost always kept up in a ponytail or clip. Until nearly a year and a half ago, my hair was longer than waist length (when I finally had it cut, it was almost to my thighs!); I kept it down most of the time then, since it was a bit more work than what it was worth to put it up - and it was HEAVY!

I hate makeup, I can't stand the way it feels on my face, and I avoid it when I can, but I can tolerate it when I need to (like back in high school ).

I keep my hair in a long ponytail. I refuse to get it cut partly because cutting hair conflicts with my religious beliefs and I have NEVER been able to get my hair cut short and not have it look stupid. At first I thought the styleists were just way too sissor happy but my sister-in-law cut it extactaly how I wanted it and it still came out looking dumb. It's also a control issue, as a child I had NO control over how long I could keep my hair and I always had to get it cut in stupid bob cuts. My head itched constantaly as a child. I felt like I was going to go insane from it. I would often cut my hair so I could get to the skin faster and of course my hair looked like the stylist was dead drunk and on acid at the same time. My mom had to take me to get it cut so it looked halfway decent. I still resented her for making me get it cut. When I cut my own hair, I was the one doing it and I made the choice to cut it, not my mom or some stranger. As an adult, people can't impose their will on me anymore so I can grow my hair out as long as I want and as I said I look awful with short hair.


Dress wise I wear T-shirts and denium shorts and nothing else. If my parents would let me, I would embrase my intrest in the furry subculture and wear a plush tail. Maybe not all the time, but now and then on casual ocassions.

I thought the OP meant "what do you call yourself," or "what is your honorific of choice"!

As in, "he styled himself a professor, but he was no such thing," or "his title was an affectation, but he styled himself such in honour of his ancestors."

Dear me, I should have been born in the eighteenth century...

I feel weird like all skiers are all about outlandish color nonsense. I have pretty high-end gear (outerwear is a hobby of mine per se) and I do try to branch out but when it comes down to it I roll pretty conservative. Like so...

I fashion myself after the way that The Kinks dressed, between 1964 and 1968. Mick Avory in particular. I do have yet to do the purple flowers, with the purple tie, though.

I usually dress in comfortable, practical but brightly coloured clothes and I don't wear heels. My hair is usually straightened and down.
I don't really have a particular style, I just wear clothes in general if that makes sense.
