Well ... that is quite a thought!

The court stenographer comes to mind, but that is an entirely different kind of "keyboarding", of course ... and a "true programmer" would be the one who used to enter his or her code via a set of eight toggle switches and two push buttons ("enter" and "step")!

Old guy here. I like the "clicking" kind. I remember WordStar 3.4 (or 4, or 4.2, I don't remember) on the old IBM Model M keyboards back in 1988 or 1989.

Unicomp still makes them in Lexington, KY, probably on the same equipment IBM used to make the Model M. They have a web storefront at yahoo dot net.

(I also have a clicking 1991 Northgate OmniKey 101, it is not for sale. Not at any price.)

I still have several "clickers" in a box in my basement, and I must "reduce my inventory" (a mere accumulation) before moving in a few weeks ... so I will gladly send one (for free) to anyone who might want one!
