Research supports a link between traumatic birth and certain cognitive difficulties. There may even be a link between it and social anxiety. I wish I could find the study. I think it was the NE Journal of Medicine. I could probably google it. Anyway, thoughts?

8O I can't seem to remember anything about my birth! Now that you mention it, I don't remember a time when I could. It must have been horribly traumatic if I've blocked it out so completely.

Sounds plausible. I have a huge 'birth mark' on one side of my head where no hair grows, apparently caused by some rough handling with a pair of forceps.

Not my case. Nothing traumatic about mine, though mom says the midwife at one point jumped on her belly to squeeze me out of her faster :D

P.S. Captain Trips, I love your nickname :D In The Stand, King had one of the best ideas for a novel that ever dawned on him.

My birth wasn't traumatic for me, but it certainly was for my mother. My mom was in labor with me for three days until they finally have to do a c-section.

I came out fast, very little effort from my mom, I know I was autistic from what my mom told me about my birthday because I didn't cry much and I didn't like being held, when I was held I cried.

It's possible in my case. My mum had a heart attack during labour, and I have a dent in my forehead where the midwife poked something up her to break her waters. If I'd come out on my front (like the majority of babies), the dent would be at the back of my head, but alas.

I was very young when I was born, but it must have been tramatic seeing that I was at a hospital

My mom was in labour for 3 days and readily reminds me of how difficult it was. They used forceps on me and I have a little birthmark on my forehead that my mom thought was due to them, but the doctor said it wasn't. Who knows. I was also born without everything fully formed in my nasal cavity - I looked normal from the outside, but inside there was nothing - like no tunnel. Guess I'm lucky I got the nose. :) It's because of that that my sense of smell never really fully developed.

My social anxiety's huge, but I don't know if it's due to my birth.

From what I understand, I was born in distress, and had my cord wrapped around my neck. To make things worse, the hospital would not admit my mother until she was (nearly?) fully dilated for some reason (she was 17 and uninsured, which I don't doubt played a part). I was also jaundiced at birth.

My NT brother was much, much easier, apparently.

Well, my mother developed these antibodies to attack my blood so I needed a blood transfusion while still in the womb then I was delivered by c-section before my mother even went into labor with me. It may have contributed to some problems I have.
I don't have social anxiety, I just don't have an interest in people and can't talk good or do math good or remember stuff that good.

traumatic birth means physical trauma not emotional.

Apparently, mine took at least the better part of the day, and I was pretty late. I was also undergoing surgery within 12 hours of being born. I don't know if that counts - probably a lot of people who are not autistic have gone through surgery shortly after birth - but things went downhill fast after the birth was over.

Mum told me that I was born late afternoon. unlike my brothers and sisters who were born early morning.
It was not a traumatic birth.

Dad told me that the doctors asked him and Mum if it was ok if a group of medical students watched the birth.
Dad didn't like the idea, Mum allowed the students to watch.
