Help! I am the mom of a 25-year-old young man who has all the signs of having Asperger's Disorder. He and I would both like to get a formal diagnosis, but don't know where to go. We live in central Wisconsin. I have not been able to find any place in Wisconsin that is qualified to diagnose anyone over the age of 18. Can anyone here recommend a doctor, clinic or hospital to me? Thanks.

Could you drive to Chicago to get the diagnosis done?

I am a young adult and I got my diagnosis done by Dr. Scott Hunter, a neuropsychiatrist at the University of Chicago Medical Center, I highly recommend him. There are probably other doctors in Chicago who could do the diagnosis as well.

I have a relative in Minneapolis. I can see if she knows of anyone there.

You can check Fraser.org. They are located in the twin cities.

Slightly further north, but still in IL, there is a clinic at Lutheran General (I'm going to get assessed this week.) Dr. Nancy Landre is the main neuropsychologist.

I found her by searching for neuropsychologists in my health insurance's find-a-physician (took me FOREVER to figure this out, turned out the answer was much simpler than I supposed.) You will find that doctors in that field who work with adults with brain injuries, epilepsy, and muscular dystrophy may also be able to diagnose autism, and if not, will probably be able to refer you.
