Today I went to see my psychiatrist, she says I need to stay on my medication and that I am an impulsive person. I was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and ADD but she refuses to say I have these conditions and says I dont need a "label", yet she still prescribes me medication. I'm so confused at the moment, what should I say to this doctor? would it be worth it to get a second opinion from another psychiatrist?

Problem is...I am in a care home for Aspergers, so she is free of charge, but she is still convinced on the non label thing.

Neurotypical ppl helps stuff like that. They are on an emotional level. She isn't awware of the fact that it is contraproductive in your case. You have to tell her.

You need to tell her that you NEED an explenation, otherwise you can't crasp/understand the situation or something like that and when she says stuff like this, that it just confuse you.

When I try to talk to her about it though she always dismisses the diagnosis of having Aspergers & ADD and does not give me anything else to go bye. I am baffled to why I am still on the medication if she is not going to diagnosis me with anything else apart from being impulsive . When I told her today I was coming off my medication she did not seem impressed with me, I am now in the slow process of coming off it. I think my only option now is to get a second opinion from another psychiatrist.

There is no medication effective for autism. If she can't treat or cure your condition, why is she giving you drugs?

Seems to me you've got more use for the label than you do for the toxins.

But for ADD.

I would also get a second opinion if I were you.

Thank's for all the help, think I'm going to go with the option of a second opinion. I am coming off the medication also but it has to be done slowly.

My psychiatrist doesn't like to label me either. He bandies around the words AS and ADHD and prescribes me medication, but I don't even think my ADHD diagnosis is on record. I use the labels for myself though so I can make better sense of my symptoms and feel ok with myself.

My psychiatrist prescribed me medication for ADHD without diagnosing me with with it. He diagnosed me with AS and BPII and thought that was enough, but it's not the same thing and those diagnosis doesn't give you a prescription for Concerta. He also said that if the Concerta works it's one more indication that I have ADHD, but the Concerta didn't work, so I stopped.
Yeah, a second opinion is probably a good idea, maybe for me as well.

I think that psychiatrists just don't know enough about Asperger Syndrome and ADD to be able to diagnose us with them, so they prefer not to label us because they can't. I do think they hand out medication to freely though and they don't have a clear enough picture of the problems. I don't think I will even go to another psychiatrist rather go to a psychologist instead, one that has some knowledge in the area of Asperger's and ADD.
