I don't know about that. My last remaining friend and I are known for having our conversations being simultaneous monologues on different subjects... and having conversations that are entirely quotes from futurama. This is true for both written contact and verbal contact.

All that is absolutely required is listeners. The society may not be able to advance very well, but it could exist. It's entirely speculative.

The main reason it truly won't work is many folks who are Autistic are neither listeners or talkers, as science proves out.

I haven't really found that many REAL 'MONOLOGUE type' Autistic FOLKS ON THIS site, but yeah, some in real life.

This is also a site for folks who suspect they have the diagnosis, which means it is pretty much a free for all here, but I am cool with everyone so that is absolutely no issue for me, and why I ABSOLUTELY ABHOR ANY IDEA OF AN US VS THEM IDEOLOGY as no one scares or bothers me in REAL LIFE, AT LEAST NOW, TG. :)

It would never get off the ground as every thread here discussing it is just one long split hair, and that is okay too, as that is the nature of the beast that is Autism, as well.

'Cats' do not function well as a society, as they do tend to go their own way, and that's okay too, to each his own, as long as they do NOT impact my freedoms as what I love in being as a TRULY FREE U.S. CITIZEN, TAKING ADVANTAGE of all the freedoms that does MEAN, for folks who understand how to exercise those rights freely, in real life now. :)

And hell YES, it's hard work, as FREEDOM IS NOT COST FREE, anywhere in human existence, EVER, FOR one who lives within their means. :)

On the other hand, given the different mindset of the population here, I imagine four different aspie/autistic states or should I say utopias. It might be more but I can only think of four at the moment:

1. a feminist state 2. an anarchist state. 3. a communist state, 4. a social liberalism state

You could have a swiss (or American) style federation of areas with different ideologies. Making collective state-wide decisions would take longer, but it's not impossible.

I wouldn't because I don't think it's a good idea to have different groups of people be separated--we should be working on accepting each other regardless of whether we have a disability or not. Besides, what if an autistic couple had a child who wasn't autistic? Would the child be kicked out of the country?

Both these questions have already been answered. Please look further up the thread :-)

The state I have in mind is so small that any NT's being born would be outnumbered by immigration of autistic people. I hope we can treat them better than they treat us.

Sorry. I wasn't really asking a question, just stating a reason for why I thought separating autistics and non-autistics didn't make sense. I guess in my excitement to post, I didn't bother to read the rest of the thread :D

I would if I could hire an NT or two to help me out on the difficult stuff.

We believe an autistic state IS possible after all.

Hell no. It would be like living in a mental institute without doctors and staff. No offense, but many aspies have mental and emotional issues (including myself in it, of course) So I don't think it will work.

Thank you very much Thomas81!

I am Xslzunqat on that message board.

any questions you have, please post them on the board!

The idea of an Autistic state, I assume you mean sovereign nation by this, is so complicated that only really tiny generalizations can be bantered here. And it couldn't really exist today, maybe in a few centuries if the world becomes a great deal more progressive in its social policies. It would also require humanity to not be solely stuck on Earth and to have acquired renewable technologies that that make resource constrains no longer a problem.

No I wouldn't live in an Autistic nation if one could even possibly be created in the present. I might live in a district or state within my own country of the United States that had a high ASD population if I felt I could no longer make it within the vast neurotypical population. It would be a part of the greater U.S. economy and would therefore have a structure that would be applicable to the present. Not in the same way as Native American reservations, but as an actual state. Good luck at that though.

OMG no! Could you imagine what that would be like? You can't put a bunch of us together on an online forum without all kinds of misunderstandings and conflict. If you put us together face to face and forced us to live there it would be a bloodbath.

Agree with the above two posts.

ASD folks not only differ from the mainstream, but differ from each other. Within the one percent (or so) of the population who are ASD there is probably more variety in thinking styles then there is among 99 percent of the population who are NT.

And ASD folks come from the same variety of backgrounds as do NTs. So ASD folks differ in both their mental hardware, and in their culture/social/educational mental software. On top of that they are less equipped to be diplomatic and to paper over differences than NTs. So the differences become enhanced rather than minimized.

Just don't see it working at all.

The thing is that autistic people have only been gathering in social groups for the past two decades at most. Neurotypicals have been trying to find ways to work together for thousands of years and they still haven't got it right. It's like going back to ancient Sumeria and saying living in cities will never work.

I think there have been lots of successes amongst autism groups, and I hope to build on that with this project.

But why?

What is the supposed advantage of autistics living in an autistic nation-state?

It would be impossible to secure any real amount of physical land for such a place, unless you had one of the greater or super powers of the world backing the idea. That's the only reason Israel exists. Imagine the acts of terrorism that would be directed at us as well. And the idea of enclaves sounds sketchy, kind of like those South American housing projects where everyone ended up being forced to drink "koolaid".

I understand the possible benefits of such a place, children born into a land that doesn't mistreat them for their social differences, after the first generation many comorbid symptoms might disappear, but these can be achieved in modern society today, it's called raising acceptance not awareness. There's a social war ahead and it wont be pretty but I think we'll come out on top. And yeah, people on the spectrum are far from being a people of same mind, we're an army of very specific individuals, it's like the argument for existence of different races. ASD is also not fully understood yet genetically.

So you found 2.5 million square miles of unclaimed land in Eastern Europe, that's a pretty volatile place in the world these days with its proximity to Russia and whatnot. I wouldn't move there for that reason alone.
