Republicans are the last ones on earth prepared to confront the threats from climate change. We are as good as passengers on the Titanic, now. Been nice knowing you, Earth. Sorry my species ruined ya.

America's energy consumption is at 1995 (or so) levels. Oil consumption is at 2004 levels. Americans are acting, even if Congress isn't. The ones to be worried about are the Chinese. Beijing has such severe smog that you can't see more than a couple blocks, people wear medical respirator masks, kids play under giant tents with filtered air, and appliance stores can't keep air cleaners in stock, they sell so fast. It's like one of those cheap 1970s eco-apocalypse novels.

They've mixed up a.m. and p.m. again. Happens all the time. Nothing to worry about.

Its too bad that were still alive despite all the times we were to all supposed to be dead from climate change heating us all to death from the holes in the ozone or the sea levels rising or the new killer winters.

I've read too much of the science to want to argue it anymore. When we can't predict weather for a week I have problems with the projections despite all the assurances. Despite that, fracking lowered the U.S carbon emissions and supposedly its evil somehow.
I'm for the republicans if they actually promote jobs, but it just seems like they are going to play the undemocrats. Its awful when neither party demonstrates an understanding of the main issues Americans care about and go on about taxing companies even more to somehow cause them to want to spend more money to make smaller profits.
Go figure.

Funny thing is, people are willing to accept science without question in every category except Climate Change. Why is that?

Suddenly, lo and behold, science is flawed and it's a big fat hoax.

I was taught as a kid over and over in school that the science was over and al gore would save us all. Ethanol turned out to be a lie that increased emissions, al gore admitted it. Right now the government is funding Tesla automoblies that don't sell for a profit and exist only because of government funding, yet because of the battery fumes and the industrial production involved they already have 80k miles just hitting the lot. And despite all the scientists who disagree with the total statement "climate change is manmade" who are told they are idiots and all the campaigns public opinion still stands again the 'solution' of taxes businesses to pay for saving the world.

And the people who believe against those policies are somehow idiots, because they vote republican. Death panels. I'm sure they don't exist right?

We're not ruining the Earth.

We may be making it more uncomfortable for us, but it's doing naught to the Earth itself (in regards to its lifespan and ability to sustain some form of life).

If "catastrophic climate change" is real then one congress won't make a difference. There are much bigger problems in the world right now than the polar bear population(which I believe has actually increased), economic ruin/war/inequality.

The concept of anthropogenic Global warming is simply a wealth redistribution tactic designed by socialistic morons for the advancement of government control, fueled by the zealot masses of hyper-crazed environmentalist, many of whom feel humans are nothing more than a virus on the surface of the earth and would happily push a human extinction button to preserve the planet for silver winged, snowy faced, naked mole rat. They denounce any findings or studies contrary to their mission as biased, unscientific nonsense and non believers in the great hoax as simple minded idiots. Yet, they pick and choose the studies and result they like, from sources they like, and adamantly defend them even when they are shown, time and time again to be false, wrong, or faked. (Yes people looking to secure a grant from a government have been known to fake data)

The republicans did go on the record as voting that climate change is real- just not caused by man. Been happening ever since this rock has been spinning, will continue to do so long after we have killed ourselves off through war or disease.

Final thought, with the vast swings in the climate of this planet from tropical paradise of the giant lizards to ice covered glaciers and back again how can any one say that the way the climate is right now is where it supposed to be. Human existence is such a tiny blip on the worlds history and reliable science and records even a smaller blip, who is to say that where we are now is the optimal place climactically?

Don't worry, Ana. The people behind the Doomsday Clock have an agenda. The point is to frighten you into cooperation with that agenda. OK, that's sort of terrifying in its own right, but... BIG DEEP BREATH.

Governments aside, if you give people the tools to change (and stop jamming it down their throats), most people will change. They're more likely to do it if it's a choice, and one that can be made without a whole lot of painful forced adjustments very quickly.

So what do you do?? Make every effort you can to live as conservatively (in terms of resources, not politics) as you can. If you're a young, single female (or male, for that matter) your choices are just about limitless. Show others (stodgy old materialists like my hubby) that it can be done, that it can be fun, that it can be comfortable and beautiful. TEACH.

As far as us destroying the Earth goes-- Honey, BREATHE. Gaia was around before we were ever thought of, and she'll be around long after we're gone. If we get too far out of line, we'll turn on each other and destroy, not the Earth, but the human race. We'll kill ourselves off until we learn to live in balance...

...or we'll kill ourselves off to below a sustainable population base and be gone. In our absence, the Earth will recover and go merrily on until a giant asteroid smashes it to bits or the Sun goes supernova.

She'll shake us off like a dog shaking off fleas. I promise.

Now, personally, I AM a believer in ACC. I think we're screwing it up, and screwing ourselves in the process, with the good old American Material Fantasy and all the rest of it. I like to see us STOP.

But I don't trust any government to MAKE us stop. They're human too, they have power-hungry, greedy ulterior motives. Our leaders aren't pure and good-- hell, they're not even leaders. It's going to have to be a CHOICE that people make, one person at a time.

Live the choice. Teach the Way. You can do this. :ninja:

I disagree with your beliefs but thats responsible of you. Often people think that they can do whatever they want and the government has to deal with climate change by legislating people who don't agree and forcing them to suffer for beliefs they dont have.

Oh so you don't believe in science. Well, alright. You are free to disagree with it. We all are

I haven't read up on it much, but I don't recall that earth would be in any specific danger, barring making life that exists now more uncomfortable.

Feel free to educate me.

According to the scientists who move the hands of the doomsday clock closer to midnight (doomsday) the results will cause a global catastrophe.

That's not an educating answer.

I found that by 2100, without change, the global temperature will rise by 4 degrees Celsius, and all the projected negative effects will affect us in the domain of comfort (harder to farm, for example, so food will be more sparse), albeit it won't stop us from being able to live here.
