I appreciate him, but he is quite bit overrated tbh.

Artist like Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, etc were far more influential as musicians on the next generation.

those other greats were also part of the same pantheon of musical gods. IMHO elvis had pieces of those people in him as well which is what made him so great. he COULD do it ALL- rock, country, jazz, blues, folk etc.

He was the epitome of what was out of style when I was teenager in the late Sixties and Seventies, but I have discovered I like alot of his stuff since then.

Like the OP said he did it all:country, blues, gospel, pop, rocknroll. A great entertainer.
