So far, my best year ever is 2013, because many good things happened and very few bad things. The only bad thing that happened was my favourite band broke up, but that didn't technically happen until 2015, they just played their last show in 2013.

My worst year ever is probably 2011. It was just yucky. That is all.

You don't have to do this, but I will grade my years from the past decade:

2006: A-
2007: C+
2008: B
2009: B-
2010: B-
2011: F
2012: C
2013: A
2014: B+
2015: C+
2016: B+

Worst year: 1991/92 (engineering college dropout, unemployed, no money, no girlfriend, still living with my not-so-happy family)
Best year: 1999 (met my wife, started doing web development part-time for my employer, which later became my full-time job)

This (2016) is both my best and worst year in so many complex ways I doubt I have the capacity to elaborate.

Right now this feels like my worst year, so many bad things have happened. Two suicide attempts, for example. I also had a delusion at one point; i thought my family and mental health team were teaming up to kill me. :? But i've now been put on medication that seems to be working, i haven't felt suicidal in weeks. Still been feeling down, but nothing extreme. I wonder if i'll continue to get better from now on, or maybe i'll get worse again. If i continue to get better, then 2017 will be my best year. I'll be starting college then, too. That'll be great.

As for what's currently my best year; i do not know. I barely remember anything from more than four years ago. I guess 2011 was my best year, but that's just a guess.

Best: 2016

Worst: This one's trickier. I had a terrible childhood and every year could be a competitor, but I think I've narrowed it down to 2001. That was breaking point, and I was still a couple of years from starting to find freedom and independence.

Best year: 1993
I had just gone through a very bad time and things were getting much better. I was seeing a really wonderful therapist once a week, I was figuring things out, I was pursuing a goal properly at last, my confidence in myself was growing in leaps and bounds, and I was able to create a social situation that was on my terms and thus I was fully enjoying it. It was a lovely time.

Worst year: 2008.
Long story but my life was destroyed by someone I trusted, I wound up homeless and starting from scratch while also suffering physical and mental illness and in a Kafkaesque nightmare. I have come through it and rebuilt but have never been the same.

My worst years were the second half and first half respectively of 1987 and 1988, as well as 1990 and and the first half of 1991; 2000-2002, 2008 and 2010-2013. They were awful in different ways for different reasons and I can't pick one.

I don't know what my best year was. Most of those that haven't been mentioned were pretty good. I would say my best years were the decades of the 70's, 80's and 90's. The new millennium has mostly been about losses and growing older.

Best years:-

1999/2000
Just loved this time. I loved the millennium. I was happy. I even liked school. And I matured a bit, as in caught up with my peers.

2007
This year had a lot of excitement. I got reunited with my aunt, who had managed to escape from a violent control freak partner. Also I was at sixth form, then college, to which I enjoyed both.

2010
Didn't have many worries. I passed my driving test, and things went rather smoothly this year.

Worst years:-

1994
The year I started school. Enough said.

2003/2004
My 'teenage hormones' really controlled me. I was such a prick when I was 13-14. Also was unhappy at school, I was lonely and missed out on a social life.

2009
A lot of stuff happened, including my grandmother being diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

2016
Since this year started, my mum fell ill, and was diagnosed with cancer.
