It's not just about how he acts, it's about how the people around him respond.

If he's immediately the undisputed victim when he puts on the waterworks, he probably counts. If he's just seen as some angry guy having a tantrum he most certainly doesn't.

This argument is utterly absurd. People can be jackasses no matter their gender. I can't say that I've experienced much in the way of privilege as a middle-aged, white woman compared to the white men in my life.

But are "Karens" the undisputed victims when they put on their waterworks and have tantrums? It seems like that's their goal when the situation is something blown way out of proportion or of course if they make it about race and gender or class etc., but that's not how they're received overall. That is typically how it works, they win over the immediate audience.

Not every attempt is going to succeed though.

Social media certainly changes the calculus, because there's the immediate audience and there's the much broader audience it eventually reaches. Winning over other people present at the time doesn't mean the internet will approve, but usually people aren't planning things out on that scale when they're being entitled.

I've tried to be pretty clear that I'm not talking about randos who lose their s**t in public, I'm focusing on the meaning discussed in those articles, people who engage in this:

All genders are capable of that behavior. Stating otherwise is sexist.

I’m being hostile towards sexist ideology. It’s not needed on WP.

I didn’t say they did.

I’m saying that they often exhibit the same behavior as so-called karens do (I’ve seen it in action), so we don’t need to use the sexist slur.
