I never have seen autism as a barrier for driving ability, but more as a barrier for motivation to drive.

I’ve yet to cause an accident after 300,000 miles of driving across three cars. However, I do think driving is extremely frustrating and when it is convenient I prefer taking the bus or train.

I don’t think autism should be an “on paper” condition or disclaimer like something that needs specific accommodations, i.e. low vision. But on the other hand I do hope there is more emphasis or push on giving people transit alternatives so they don’t feel the need to drive somewhere, esp. if they have declining faculties or are elderly. I understand independence but riding the bus is independent as well.
