I noticed that as well. There's lots of other comedy music artist but Al is the only one the average person knows about except they might know about Cledus T Judd if they're country music fans. Al has inspired lots of other comedy music artists & made being white & nerdy cooler so I belive Al deserves lots of credit but I wish the other artists got more attention & some mainstream airplay.

I read this topic title as Weird A.I. i was thinking that I've never heard any music by A.I. weird or otherwise. It took a while for the penny to drop.

I have very little experience of Weird Al. I didn't find what i heard partucularly funny. It seemed kind of like low-hanging fruit to me. It struck me as one of those things you like when you're a kid and then retain some fondness for in adulthood. In 80/90s UK Weird Al wasn't really on our cultural radar.

The Capitol Steps? Didn't know they were still around. I don't know whether their material would be thought funny in today's political climate. Same for Mark Russell.

He is still active? I enjoyed his parodies during the 1980s. That is alright, I would have no idea what he is parodying, because I am pretty clueless about today’s music.

Yes, but I've only really listened to his songs from the 80s and 90s and I have many Weird Al tapes and CDs from those decades. I wonder if it's weird that I know the lyrics to his parodies much better than the actual songs, even if I've listened to them as well.

A few years ago he spoofed Miley Cyrus by recording "Party At the CIA" on his album "Al Pocalypse".

Good question.

I used to be on their mailing list. And would buy their CDs which continued into the early Trump era. But (now that you mention it) I hadnt gotten anything from them lately.

Just now googled them. Turns out that they...closed shop in 2021. :(

Due to Covid. Not so much 'the political climate'.

Sad to see them go. But they had a great 39 year run.

But as Lewis Black observed "fantasy is outstripping fantasy" in politics. So it is indeed harder to do political satire than it used to be.

Tech has changed too. With AI Randy Rainbow can do in his basement what it used to take a whole troupe of performers to do.
