Seems like there's a fatal flaw for people living in many parts of the world.

Lithium Ion Batteries can't survive freezing. If the membrane ruptures they can catch fire too.

Frozen Batteries aren't typically covered by insurance, and replacement costs can range from 5 to 20 thousand US Dollars.

EV cars may be the future but the key word is future. Today's cars have limitations.

We don't have nearly enough charging stations to facilitate long distance driving.

When EV batteries wear out, the replacement cost depending upon the vehicle in question ranges from a low of $4,000 to a high of $20,000.

Some EV batteries will spontaneously catch fire. When this happens, the batteries burn very hot and generate a lot of heat (1000 degrees F.)

Charging batteries at home means that a charging station has to be installed in one's garage.

A typical electric car with a 60kWHbattery will take 8 hours to charge from empty to full with 7kW charging point.

Charging off the electrical grid means the power stations need to also be alternative energy otherwise its passing the buck

Batteries just aren't reliable enough yet. They're hyped up more than their worth. Nobody should buy a £50000 car and panic about battery damage every time a particularly cold winter comes along.

For that much money I would expect it to work.

Please take a step back before you damn EVs with this story from the EV hating FOX. The problems these people encountered is only applicable to EVs which rely on public charging only, which is a small percentage of EVs. Also, many of these people did not have the knowledge they needed to deal with this cold with an EV. Here is a balanced explanation of what happened in Chicago News From Chicago: EVs Suck In The Cold! I Flew There To See What Is Actually Happening

If you'd prefer another source.

Nevertheless, I know people who've managed quite well with these for years.

The real question is whether the end-to-end system produces less CO2 than the case where fuel is refined from raw material extracted from the earth, and burned in the automobile's engine. As most ways to produce power without burning hydrocarbons, e.g. nuclear power and wind farms, face stiff opposition from the public.

Even in Chicago, as evidenced by those recent videos, they don't have that sort of weather day after day.
A guy flew into do his video and he was a day late!
Wouldn't it make more sense to just keep them off the road for a couple days a year?
Them being owners who have to use public charging stations.
Owners who have their own chargers weren't affected.
