There was no such thing as English either...

The people who spoke English called themselves Saxons...

Barely less than two hundred fifty years ago, there was no such thing as Americans.
Arguably, the Palestinians might not have had a separate national or ethnic identity in the past, but they certainly do today. And that's what counts.

Then in that case, the Italians should retake Britain.

Consider a map of what is today thought of as Palestine. Anybody non-Jewish who lived in that territory before 1947 is by definition Palestinian. You could write a PhD dissertation about whether those people share a national identity beyond that strict definition.

The Welsh, not the Italians. If the Italians had a claim they lost it when Rome told their British colonies good luck, we've got our own problems, gonna need to take our army back now thanks.

The final stage of genocide is to claim that the targeted group never existed.

Let's just hope Israel doesn't win then. From the River to the Sea!

Good points.

When my mom and her siblings were in elementary school, approximately 60-65 years ago, "Canadian," wasn't an option to select as a nationality on school forms. My uncle pointed out.. asked the teacher and principal what he was supposed to select as the list was something like "English, Irish, Scottish, Polish, Ukrainian, Romanian.." etc but he wasn't born in any of those countries, he was born here and is Canadian. Kinda strange to think it took 2-3 generations of people being born here for Here to even acknowledge that here exists as a place to be from.

Really? If I was in that situation, I'd doubtlessly identify as German, even though I failed German in high school!

Yep. Canada turns 157 years old this year. When they were kids Canada was only ~90 years old.. people were just beginning to identify as Canadian and not as wherever their parents or grandparents came from.
