Maybe 1/3 of the cast of Fire Emblem Fates is borderline unlikable. Corrin especially is dumb as a bag of hammers in the most frustrating ways.

Gary Oak for me is one of those characters that I love to hate. Nintendo really motivated the player to get better by putting them against someone so aggressively smug.

Pokemon rivals haven't been the same since they got nicer and friendlier. I miss the days of Gary and Silver telling me what a loser I am. It also gave them more depth as characters when they eventually learn the error of their ways and mellow out.
