I paid some of my rent so I have 18 more days in my apartment. This had been a roller coaster with very very bad anxiety, acid reflux, breathing problems, getting dizzy. When I was packing, I was breathing so fast, having anxiety & really bad acid reflux, I felt like I was going stop breathing, I wish I did. I have ALOT of bone pain cuz of my Psoriatic Arthritis, I can get pain in my ankle, my foot, my wrists, my hand, arms, my knee, almost everywhere. I’m sooooo mentally & physically exhausted. I CANNOT MOVE like I did when I moved on my own in 2007, I don’t have the energy, anymore. I threw up 8 times last month, I been crying everyday. When I do move, I have to start all again in a new apartment all by myself, I can take alot of my things. I’m so tired of living, I lived for 53 years, I don’t want to live no more, I want to die.

I wish i could help you, moving is very stressful. I have attachments to certain objects and not being able to see them is hard for me also.

Did you pack everything already? I hope you can relax a bit for the remainder of your days in your old apartment.

Good news. Gives you a bit of time to get things sorted out - but you still have to act quickly to get help, especially if your family is unwilling or unable to help you.

It seems very strange to me that none of your family members can call a social worker or someone in your area to request the kind of help you need.

Are you able to make phone calls and ask for help? Or go to your local community police station or hospital and ask for a social worker? Tell them all of the symptoms you just listed above in your opening post but tell them you are not only seeking treatment for those things, you Need A Social Worker or other similar helper to help you apply for Section 8 housing and find a place to move to ASAP because you're being evicted after trust fund money ran out to pay your rent.

There are people who are paid to help disabled people navigate these things. You need to get in contact with the ASAP because even 18 days is an extremely short time frame to accomplish these things. If they can't do them that fast, worst case scenario they may be able to find you a bed at a homeless shelter instead of being on the street while they try to find an apartment and do all the paperwork.

But no one can begin that work until you meet them and have a conversation with them and they learn what they need to from you to be able to help you with this whole situation.

Are you able to phone anywhere and request help? Are you able to go out to a hospital or police station or court house or city hall or someplace where they would have information about social workers or social workers there on shift ready for a first conversation?

If you are unable to phone or go places then you need someone to phone them until they get info about a worker/are able to get one to phone you or come to your apartment to begin working with you.

I am glad you have a bit more time in your apartment to sort yourself out, Kitty.

Moving is stressful for anyone. I believe in you and your ability to get through it all. :)

So sorry you’re struggling so much, kitty. Have there been any potential new apartments found? Any viewings at all? xx

I have similar concerns here. I'm in Pennsylvania and am unfortunately less familiar with the programs and systems in California. But, in the US, all states have wraparound services called "waiver programs" for individuals with disabilities who are eligible for Medicaid and are at risk of being placed in a facility if they don't receive services.

Some basic info about one of waiver programs in California is can be found here: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/in-home-supportive-services. It looks like applications can be started by calling your local county assistance office, which can be found at the link on this page if you are interested, Kitty.

Unfortunately the process for applying for one of these programs can take a long time, though, and some states have waiting lists. So, that might be something that would be better to help you get ongoing help and support once you are settled into a stable housing situation as opposed to something to help in the short term.

You could also try contacting your local Center for Independent Living (see here: https://www.ilru.org/projects/cil-net/c ... results/CA) and seeing what programs they might be able to suggest for housing or short-term rental assistance. Hopefully people who are in your local area might be able to point you in the right direction better than we can online.

If things get really dire, contacting adult protective services (APS) for yourself would be an option to get a social worker involved in your situation immediately. They would typically investigate the situation and do what they feel is appropriate to ensure your short-term safety and help you get connected to services that might be needed to maintain a safe and stable living situation. This may be appropriate if you have been mistreated by family members who are responsible for helping you (i.e. they are your POA or guardian or are helping manage your finances) and/or are feeling unsafe or at risk of hurting yourself. https://www.cdss.ca.gov/adult-protective-services

Just be aware that APS could make suggestions that you don't like and they will be required to do their due diligence in investigating allegations of fraud or neglect. If they propose any interventions that you don't like, such as (just for the sake of example) entering a facility until permanent housing can be secured for you somewhere else, you can turn down those suggestions as long as your life is not in immediate danger and it is within your legal rights to decide to stop working with them if you chose to do so. But, if they investigate allegations of fraud or other mistreatment by your family members and determine criminal activity may have occurred, they'd be required to report that to law enforcement regardless of whether you feel comfortable with them doing so or not.

^Interesting. You listed a few different places/resources that we don't have by those names here in Canada so I never would have thought to look for them.

Good point on the reporting of fraud/criminal activity. Hard to say if her sister committed any crimes misappropriating trust fund money or not. Depends how the will and fund was set up. If the $ was left in a collective pool for 2-3 people and with Kitty4670's sister in charge of managing it as she sees fit, then she may have simply done some things using the money to a buy a house that didn't work out well for Kitty4670 but wasn't actually illegal for her to do. BUT, if the $ was clearly earmarked for Kitty4670 and her sister "stole," it.. then maybe some sort of illegal act took place. Hard to know without seeing the will and trust and all that. So, depends what Kitty4670 Knows about the will & trust And whether or not she would want her sister to face legal consequences IF she committed any crimes.

There was some agency who's website is at the California Courts that says they assist with disabled people finding housing, moving, Section 8 subsidy applications etc BUT their website was a dead link when you click for more info. I haven't tried the website again, but if it's still down it might be worth a phone call to the California Courts organization to inquire about that specific agency and assistance. I have no idea if I have free international calling or not on my cell phone or the land line at home but can find out. I'm at least in the same time zone one the West Coast and if no one in Kitty4670's life is willing or able to make a phone call to inquire about that agency's assistance I Could make a call and ask for them to contact Kitty4670 via phone/email/home visit -> something. She does Need their services, or someone like them, ASAP because she has ~16-17 days of rent paid and needs to arrange funding to stay put Or funding and a place to move to at the end of that time. If she doesn't have a place to go and her sister's/father's homes are not options then she'll be homeless w/o some sort of advocate or social worker doing quick work to find her Something.

Anyways, Kitty4670 if you're catching up reading this thread and there is No One in your life - family/friend/neighbour/Doctor etc No one that can phone around and get someone to contact you from an agency that can give you the help you need then I will make time to phone that specific agency if they have a number, or some operator number for California Courts, and ask for whatever that agency is and tell them they need to get in contact with you ASAP to help arrange funding/housing/moving supports. If that's something you Need me to do let me know and pm with contact info I can relay to the appropriate agency so these people can phone you, or email you, or come to your home address and have an in person meeting. They may need all of the above contact information in order to communicate with you and do their best to get things sorted out ASAP so you know what's going to happen next vs. the stressful unknown.

My sister seems like her old self, she looking for a place for me & hopefully I can bring my cat so I won’t have to move twice. I love it that she helping me, but she very busy with packing & cleaning her house, she selling her house, when it sold then I will get money, she also has alot health problems, Bipolar, ADHD, she said she have Autism too & she works, she going pay for my new place by working since we don’t have the money, when she bought her house, it is really an investment house so when it gets sold, me, her & my nephew will get money, that will be the last money from the trust. My mom died over 10 years ago, my mom told me the money will last me around 20 years. My money in my bank is low, I still have to pay my internet, it’s $64, my money will be around $320, I used $1,152 for my rent for 18 days now tomorrow going be the 7th. I don’t understand how going to the hospital or the police will help me get a social worker. I can’t get out of my apartment by myself, I can’t walk too good, I have too much pain in my feet & lower legs, I use a wheelchair & walker. I’m soooo tired of living. Once everything got way toooo much for me, I had so much trouble breathing, I was breathing in unusual way, I thought I was going get a heart attack.

There a friend in my city who is helping me, I don’t know if she can call someone for me, she works & have an Autism son.

There are social workers on shift and on call at every hospital all the time. There are various specialist social workers at hospitals, too. For example, BC Children's Hospital has a social worker that Only deals with diabetic kids in foster care. There may be specialized social workers that help deal with developmentally disabled adults. But they will at least have a general social worker on shift. The point of going to a hospital would be to make contact with a social worker and explain your situation so they can find the right type of social worker or aid to assist you with all of this housing/section 8 subsidy applications/moving stuff. Hell, you could go to the hospital and tell them you are having a breakdown and are very stressed/anxious/worried and need help - tell them you need to talk to a social worker and don't know how to contact one. Then they would send someone to you there in the hospital to talk, start a file, get your contact info and make a plan to go from there - possibly with meetings at home etc.

Police also have social workers on call. If you go to a police station or call the police for something and there's kids involved in some sort of issue or domestic dispute or whatever then they have social workers to call and dispatch to help deal with kids/remove children from unsafe situations etc. They would also have contact information for social workers that deal with adults. The point of contacting police to tell them you need a social worker is simply in order to get in touch with a worker and get one assigned to you that can begin helping.

Hospital or police station are places you might go/contact in order to get referred to a social worker so that you can get the help you need if you don't know the name or phone number etc of whatever agency/government office social workers work for. If you know the direct contact information for a social workers office, then by all means, phone them or go there.. but if you don't know who to contact to get a social worker or some other type of professional to assist you with all this housing and moving stuff, if you go to a hospital or police station they can 100% put you in communication with a social worker to get things started.

IMO a hospital would be best because they deal with this sort of thing, especially with homeless people - which you're about to become if Someone doesn't sort out your housing situation. Your sister might be working on it.. and she might be successful, but it still doesn't hurt to have a social worker on the case and helping you who's in the know about everything that's going on. They might even have the ability to phone housing places and get a place a lot easier than your sister can because often homeless shelters and low income housing say that they are full but they have spaces reserved for when social workers call to refer someone coming from a hospital etc.

It would be beneficial to get a social worker ASAP so they can try to help. It's 11 days until you're supposed to be out of your apartment, so the more competent people working on trying to find a solution for you the better. That's why I highly recommend you get a social worker by whatever means necessary. The website from the California Courts with info about helpers for disabled people doesn't work so there's no contact info there for them. That's why my advice is to go to a hospital and tell them you're having a nervous breakdown about moving and you're disabled and need help making sure you have a place to go to and Need to talk to a social worker who can help you.

I’m trying to get a social worker. I wish I have more help, I been looking at websites trying to understand what I’m reading, but I can’t understand, I don’t know what to do on the websites, my learning disability makes me feel really stupid, I wish I could be more of an adult. I been thinking about dying alot.

Go to a hospital and tell them you are so stressed over this moving situation that you think about dying and you Need help and Need a social worker assigned to you to help navigate this whole situation.

Time is running out and even someone who knows the system will have very little time to try to get things sorted out to avoid homelessness. But if you get a social worker to help then they might have some temporary solution while you wait for housing support approval and rental applications etc.

If you do nothing then your landlord will expect you to be out and your apartment empty in a week or so.

Do whatever you have to do to get the help you need that your family isn’t giving you. No one here lives near you and we don’t know the government offices etc to get a social worker for you. But if you go to a hospital and tell them you Need help and don’t know any other way to get a social worker then they can at least start the process of getting you help.

Here's the website for the Department of Social Services in California:

https://www.cdss.ca.gov

You need to contact people through there by email/phone ASAP to get a social worker that can assist you with all of this stuff. If you can't phone/email then get your sister or someone else to do it. You need help and they can't even begin a case and assigning someone to work with you until they're contacted. There's very little time left for anyone to help you with funding/subsidies, finding a place to move, moving etc so you or someone else needs to contact them Now so they can try to help before your moving deadline in less than a week or whatever they actual date is.
