My family keeps telling me this...

Edit: I'm nearly 21, not 60

No it's fine. People still enjoy and watch spongebob as adults, even though it is primarily aimed for children.

I don't know how old you are but spongebob is culturally significant for those who grew up in the 2000s, and has a lot of references and jokes that adults can appreciate and find funny.

No it isn't an issue!

As was previously stated a LOT of adults like and watch SpongeBob SquarePants which is marketed to kids

Honestly we have SpongeBob and other things like Disney to thank for this sudden surge of adults who enjoy kids' stuff

More specifically it was The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) which was responsible for adults deciding that they want to enjoy things made and marketed towards children without having to feel ashamed or whatever at their choices!

This particular film changed the narrative about adults having to conform to pressures from society and MUST act their age

I may want to eventually have sex, get married and start my own family but that doesn't mean I cannot enjoy collecting fashion dolls, playing Nintendo video games and watch cartoons like SpongeBob SquarePants!

Adults do NOT have to conform to societal expectations and how do you define "age-appropriate" anyway?

What is truly "age-appropriate"?

Not at all. They even made a movie called Roger Rabbit that wouldn't have got far if adults didn't like Looney Tunes. The sexual content suggests it wasn't really aimed at kids.

Personally I didn't like it anything like as much as I like the actual Looney Tunes. It weirded me out, which is odd because I usually like weird things.

"not normal"...as in not like most people? Maybe. It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong.

Lots of people enjoy Looney Tunes though perhaps not a majority.

I like Scooby Doo me

Sometimes I get up early to watch it because it's the only time I can get the telly to myself

I don't think there's a right or wrong when it comes to watching cartoons

Even neurotypicals don't think it's weird:

There's going to be a minority of people who think everybody should stick to what was made for them, but their views aren't important, unless they carry guns and are prepared to use them. In which case you've got trouble anyway.

Looney Tunes was actually made with an adult audience in mind to play in movie theaters. You don't have to be vulgar or excessively violent to appeal to adults.

not at all, Lots of adults of all ages love cartoons! My husband is in this 70's and he still loves cartoons and the muppets too. It is one of the things I love about him. Don't change to please others, there is not a thing wrong with liking Looney tunes no matter what age you get to be!

Yep, Looney Tunes were more or less the animated music videos of the day that were shown in an effort to sell records of the music.

It's kind of funny how people think that these were for kids, when really there was just a brief period during the '80s where the Looney Tunes were being directed at children.

"Normal" people like really stupid stuff.

I think liking Mr. Fudd is better.

(But our household would vote for Bugs!!)

Who wants to be normal? Normal people are boring.
When I meet a normal person I never talk to them again.
I'd much rather be weird.

Lots of adults like Looney Tunes. I like Looney Tunes. And the Golden Age Looney Tunes were really meant for adults and not kids, anyway.

They've got Looney Tunes characters on adult sized t-shirts, so that alone proves that Looney Tunes are also for adults.
