Hi tearose. Welcome to WP!!
I am an Aussie with a japanese partner, we live in Melbourne, Australia. I went to meet/stay with her family in August 2006 for a month. I hope we can live in Japan for a period of time after my spouse gets her Australian permanent residency. She is from Shinagawa, Tokyo. We also travelled a bit because I had a railpass, we went to Akita and Aomori and I fell in a river. We stayed overnight next to Towada-Ko in a hotel with an Onsen, that was cool... errr warm.
We also went to Kyoto for a week, which I loved. I saw a drunk shirtless Brit trying to ask a Maiko (or Geiko) if he could have a photo with her in Gion (her client didn't look impressed). I also went to Nara (I was scared of the deer, they nibbled my tummy after I fed them) and Arashiyama during our stay in Kyoto. I loved Kiyomizudera, Kinkau-ji, Fushii Minarii and pretty much everything I saw in Kyoto. I had the best Ton-Katsu under Kyoto Eki.

I would also like to see some of you photos. It would be great if you could put the link up.

I think I recognise your avatar form photos my partner has. Is it form a museum that had heaps of paintings that appeared to come out of the walls?

Welcome! I also have Japanese people in the family, my aunt is Japanese and my cousin (her daughter) is half-blood. As for me, I'm American, but I always wanted to travel to the Land of the Rising Sun and see it's Epicness firsthand! And as you can probably guess by my avatar, I'm seriously into the anime revolution, although i'm still considered casual by otaku standards!
Anyways, see you around the site someday! Sayonara!
