I agree :P Often 'emo' music might have energy but it's 'trying too hard' to be energetic and angsty :P

to explain my point further, let us compare the two genres by taking some random samples of each.

Death metal. Mercenary - Firesoul

Emo. My chemical romance - famous last words

I personally hate emo / HxC or any of these other fashionable subgenres of punk, but I'm also sick to the back teeth of people pointlessly hating on it, too. Sure, I think it's crappy music, and I'm none too big a fan of all the emo-kids who skulk about in the centre of town basically being a nuissance, but I've seen enough emo hate threads to last me a lifetime, which most likely include the usual gamut of rather uninformed slander.
Why not start a thread on what music you actually LIKE instead?

No, you're wrong. MRC is not an emo band. Neither is Fall Out Boy. Essentially they are to emo what that explosion of crappy bands like Simple Plan was to punk: a crass pop-radio commercialization of a genre with bands that have nothing to do with the genre.

Examples of real emo:
Sunny Day Real Estate - In Circles (they were essentially the first emo band that were popular (this video is from 1993 or so). After they broke up, the rhythm section joined the Foo Fighters, but the drummer left when SDRE reunited. The bassist remains in the Foos to this day)

Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American (this is the band that every fake emo band copied very, very poorly. And after these bands came along, J.E.W.'s record label forced them to "sound more like them" resulting in their last two albums not being very good. This was from their last album that was any good)

I think I posted the difference between the different waves of emo in another thread, but MCR is NOT an emo band. They are to emo what Good Charlotte was to punk rock.

1. Well done on not knowing what emo is.
2. Well done on painting an entire genre with one brush.
3. Well done on doing it in an apparently homophobic way.

the homophobic reference has been dealt with. Too bad we can't change his mind as fast as editing the text.

This is exactly how you define SELLOUT.

I don't know, I often find emo music pleasurable in a guilty way. Like trashy romance novels.

Yup, every band tries to copy you, resulting in these inferior bands selling more causing the band's label to essentially sound like a bad copy of their earlier world. As such, Futures and Chase This Light pale in comparison to Clarity and Bleed American.

Emo's are 8) don't bag them. I just don't like SOME death metal bands. They got to be artistic, original, understandable (lyrically and MUST lay off the sauce of same old same old. (In other words not repeat the same sound , again and again.)

I'm not emo not goth but a ..............................

Emo music sucks.

I won't give a detailed explanation of all the technical reasons why it's inferior, because I really can't.

I simply don't like it at all.

Thankyou for bringing out the obscurity of obviousness on this subject. ;)

I agree with most posters. Emo and Screamo, is punk with no energy.

Drive Like Jehu, would they be classed as Emo? Because I think they're ok.

Apart from that it's all just trash.

I mean, why do ALL songs these days have to be about love anyway? :|
