In an average lifetime, you'll eat 70 assorted insects and 10 spiders while sleeping, so arthropods are just protein, and a plentiful source at that. C'mon, just think of all the animals that live off them. We eat crabs, shrimp, and lobster, right, so why not insects and spiders? Squid is also a delicacy (which I don't think I've had).

Statistically, any given culture only makes use of 10% or less of the available food sources in their area, due to taboos and general human fickleness. Only in the most agriculturally challenged areas, like in African, are available food sources exploited more fully. Bugs are a ready food source in almost every place in the world, and in certain places like Africa and South America, are an important staple. In fact, bugs, next to fish and shellfish, are the best and healthiest protein source available to humans. So I'd eat them - I just won't eat them, knowingly, alive. LOL.

I love squid, and all shellfish and fish for that matter. It's brain food, and I need a lot of brain food. Fisha nd shellfish help me manage my depression. Delicious too. Some days I have really bad craving for shellfish or fish and just eat tuna or clams out of the can, or go buy a half pound of cooked shrimp at the store and eat them in the car. I like octopus a lot too, but feel a little guilty since they're incredibly intelligent animals.

In addition to Aspergers, I also have "supertasters" syndrome.
I absolutely cannot and will not eat:
VEGETABLES, with the exception of corn, peas, beans, and potatoes.
EGGS,
Yougurt,
Sour creme,
Creme cheese,
Apricots, peaches, pineapple, and other sticky fruit.
I would rather be given JEVITY through a tube in my nose than eat any of the above.
I would also rate onions, sauerkraut, and broccoli as the grossest food items.

Due to having all my molars out, I also do not eat stakes (with the exception of the Salisbury kind). No coconut or raisins, either.

Is there a diagnosis called "supertasters syndrome"? I think my mother has that. She has a list of about 15 foods she CAN eat. It's unbelievably difficult to cook for her. She won't eat:
cheese of any kind
tomatoes in any form
lettuce or salad
zucchini or any vegetable that doesn't come in the frozen cardboard boxes
any kind of sauce on her food - it all has to be completely plain and no sauce, gravy, ketchup
Fish in any form
And everything on your list except eggs.

Yes, Aylissa,
Supertasters' syndrome is a fairly new diagnosis, but there is stuff on the internet about it. Most pepole who experience this cannot tolerate sour or bitter foods, as well as certain textures, with celery and onions a good example. In addition to the items I previously mentioned, I cannot stand cottage cheese as well, although I love most hard cheeses like cheddar or mozzarella. I also like most gravies and catsup and smooth barbeque sauce, but I can't get near mayo or relish. I'm not much of a seafood eater, either, but I do enjoy my beer battered shrimp from time to time. Beer battered English style fish and chips is sometimes good, too. Some eating places really dread seeing me coming in. 8O

I'll eat just about anything that doesn't try to bite back while I'm putting it in my mouth.
Very few foods disgust me except.....

Brussel Sprouts....I couldn't even down one of those things. And they Do Not taste like cabbage.

Cantalope....The smell makes me want to puke.

Liver

Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi and Mountain Dew.....Not even when I'm really thirsty.

Oh, and I can't even squash a cockroach and have to sweep him out the house since I don't want to touch it. So you can forget about me eating one.

Now octopus and squid sound interesting, hmm.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Poison ivy, hemlock, unknown types of berries, dogs, pigs, camels, jellyfish, stingrays, unknown mushrooms, stuff the opposition recommends...

I cannot tolerate cheese in any way, shape or form. It all smells like rancid BO to me.

Also, things with a gelatinous texture trigger my gag reflex.

Also, never eat durian that has been sitting in the back of whole foods for a month and has been marked down to 99cents. On a second though, just avoid durian altogether. Trust me on this one.

Same goes for lutefisk, even though I've never had to eat it before.
