Hi, I'm Alex, 16.

Do these sound like symptoms of AS?

I feel nervous around most strangers. I'm very closed and shy, would guess that being shunned all the time doesn't help. I'm often an outcast with different views and values to those of other people.

At school, they suggested I had AS, but nothing has become of that. And the attitude towards it seemed pretty negative. I've tried and failed in many social situations. Got very few RL friends.

Sometimes when I talk about something, it ends up as incomprehensible trollop that not even I can understand. Just saying something for the sake of saying it.

I'm not very tuned in with emotions. I find myself left out of social activities frequently. So what I tend to do is just stand tall and cold as if I don't care that much. Which is true.

I frequently forget things which don't seem important at the time, even if they are quite important. Such as phone calls.
If I don't tell myself to remember something, I very often forget about it unless someone mentions it or I think about what happened. I never did homework. LOL, I need a personal reminder. My long-term memory, however, is very good when it comes to recalling things from ages ago. I can recall images and certain chronological events quite well, but my memory still forgets lots. I suppose it's above average.

My handwriting is very poor and scruffy. I am quite good at spellings and grammar, but no-one can read it.

I can't stand it when there is too much going on at the same time. When there is lots going through my mind or things are distracting/annoying me, I can't think or come up with anything good. I like to know what's going on. I'm clumsy all the time.

Might be it, but do you have obsessions/sensory issues/need for routines?

And besides being shy, do you feel you don't understand the social rules & stuff?

Hello, welcome!

That sounds almost EXACTLY like me, and I was diagnosed several years ago. You might want to look into inattentive ADD, because that's also what I've got and your case sounds a lot like mine.

As for people being negative towards the idea of AS, that probably depends mostly on the people you mentioned it to. For instance, telling your neighbor about AS is bad, but a Ph.d that your dad knows is OK. Most people just think of Rain Man when you tell them about Asperger's.

As for your handwriting and clumsiness, well, welcome to the club. I'm sure we've all got embarrassing stories about that.

Welcome, and I hope you go about getting a diagnosis! It can help out loads. :D

Yes it sound slike AS all right but the memory part sounds a lot like my ex boyfriend, so I broke up with him for that reason but there were other stuff too about him I couldn't stand.

My ex bf wanted me to tell him when to study for his driver's lisence and when to do imprtant things and he can't even remember important stuff like my b-day and anniversaries. He only remembers what is important to him.

Well, my memory problems are mainly with short term things/ stuff that isn't really important. It's probably because I have so much on my mind and I get distracted with other things. Something interesting pops up, I look into it, and I forget what I was originally doing.

Yes, I have problems with social rules. I learn them manually and just play along with difficulty. But it doesn't last for long.

Sensory issues. Yeah. I don't like too much going on. My senses do tend to "overload", making me clumsy, irritated and disorientated.

I am obsessed with political issues, technology, science, and military(as my profile says) I can't go for one hour without thinking about one of them.

I always check that food/kitchen tools are clean before I use them. I have to wash plates, cups, and cutlery with cold water before I use them. (In this house at least because my Dad doesn't do the washing up that thoroughly.) I'm certainly very paranoid. I fear for the worst when things don't go as I expected.

Sounds like pretty much what I went through. I'd say it's likely that you may have it, but the best thing would be to do some testing for it. Try getting help from the state to help facillitate that.

Hello, by the way. :)

It indeed sounds like ASS  ...oh, hm, yes sounds like AS really a lot. Do you also have problems with eye-contact, because most Aspies do.

BTW Hello and welcome to Wrongplanet :D

I try to avoid eye contact. When I do look at someone in the eye, I look away immediately. Eye contact makes me nervous. I only ever try to catch the eye of friends/girls that I'm interested in.

Oh and hi.
