I have found that working in the kitchen at a fast food place isn't half bad. Sure, it gets pretty loud and you have to keep up at a fast pace during rush, but you do the same thing over and over, like cooking and bagging fries. I worked where there were mainly spanish-speaking kitchen workers, so I could say I didn't quite understand them, I did learn some spanish and was able to communicate on the level we needed (pollo-chicken, mas rapido-more faster...) It was when they moved me to counter as cashier that I started to dislike the job. Can't stand talking to people all day...

Another job I enjoy is working with special needs children. I go to their home and babysit them. Their parents are either there, doing things that they normally can't do as their child needs constant attention, or they leave to go to work. I get along with the children, and am able too understand what they need. Many children like and get along fine with me because I can communicate on their level.

I WANT to be a writer. I'm good with words and grammar, and I love to read.

I AM a closing coordinator. I HATE IT.

I WAS a sales person/greenhouse caretaker, which I enjoyed. Being around plants was very soothing and dealing with the customers wasn't too bad. My boss was super non-judgmental and treated me like family. I would still be in that job, if I didn't move. After I moved, I tried to get the same position here in the South. But they wouldn't hire me. I think they were a little backwards racist. They were only hiring Hispanics. Told me that I didn't "really want" the job, but they would keep me in mind for the gift shop, which was ran by a bunch of white women. GAH! Like I care who their main help was! All the same to me!

It all depends. I was in sales for years and was always the top sales person. From telescopes to mortgages I seemed to have a knack at saying the right thing to get a sale. It was the only time I ever felt good and at ease when talking to people.

Depends on the skills.

People with AS tend to be good at gaming, tech work, mechanics, engineering, building, and quality control...

i always preferred any job that kept you busy and out of the social light. i know it involves a lot of talking, but im so interested in psychology that i think i'll pursue that in the future, maybe i'll find a job outside of the realm of psychotherapy...

Fabrication/metalwork/process industry. Anything that involves the special interest or ritual learning and behaviour such as those occupations that require long concentration and attention to detail.

Diplomacy is certainly a counter-intuitive, yet wise suggestion.

From experience, it's to evolve a special interest into a occupation. Then reduce social exchanges to a minimum.

I was a school / college / work drop out in my my teens. I was unemployed for 5 years in my 20's.

I finally got a PC and internet in 2003. Because I had extensive knowledge of a special interest, I was then able to transfer the hobby into a business. All my dealings with suppliers and customers are online. I employ a friend to post the parcels, so I don't have to suffer the claustrophobia of my local post office. I really wish I got my PC at a younger age, but am still grateful.

construction trades. IE boiler maker, pipefitter, ironworker, scaffolder, etc. They are easy and pay big $$$. You have to work on the road, but that shouldn't be a problem if you don't have a family or kids

Odd as it may sound, I've had fantastic luck working abroad. I happen to be strong with languages, to luck into work overseas early on and to stumble into a management position at a young age. My jobs have been very much people jobs, but they have worked because language and culture barriers very effectively mask social miscues.

This worked so well for me that I never suspected I had issues until I returned to the U.S. at roughly age 50 and began to fail miserably at the job I'd been doing successfully for 30 years.

So, if you have the language bug, interpreter, translator, exchange program coordinator, or even -- in some circumstances -- diplomatic service. (Yeah, it sounds bizarre, but with language barriers, cultural barriers, and scripted protocols for most interactions, it can work really well... Provided there is not a lot of back room political jockeying going on.)

Your mileage may vary.

What'd you do? I taught English in Asia and found it great for me. I learnt Chinese whilst in Taiwan.

I currently work as a part-time post-man in my home country but am definitely thinking about returning for a third time.

Working in a morgue.

The dead won't care if you don't socialize with them.
