[b]Ok what happened is somebody told me they thought I might have it and now I cannot get the notion out of my mind...in fact it is driving me a little nuts...(it happens alot to me..I become fixated on an idea and it is stuck...like a virus on the brain..can't get rid of it)

It could possibly be that I am not an aspie but I have alot of aspie-like traits..I would formally go to a doctor about it, but i don't know where to start..I already jumped through a bunch of stupid hoops to get formally diagnosed as having ADD..with the help of a friend at the time
and I am 31..it is hard to find trustable doctors who know anything about this stuff and aren't trying to take advantage of their patients..where I live....(bad experience with ADD clinic)

Anyway..

I have been akward since I was a child.
Verbally I was just fine, but my motor skills have always been awful...
I am a life-long toe-walker...for starters..I don't do it all the time..but at least half the time.
I am clumsy and sorta move like I am driven by a motor. I bump into people alot..I carry myself kinda strangely so I always look akward in photographs and pictures of myself. My fingers always look funny and curled up..in early photos I was always wooden and unsmiling..but now I have practiced it more and have gotten a little better at it.

I am very childlike for my age and relate to children alot better than adults..and sensitve to criticism...if somebody says something negative to me...or if I have a negative encounter with someone, it can wreck me for a long while

um...the eye contact thing..I have always had a real hard time with that...in fact that is why somebody said I might be an aspie. I have to make a concerted effort and it generally makes me very uncomfortable..I also don't like being touched by people I don't know...though I have known a "real" diagnosed aspie who had no concept of personal boundaries and would always invade my personal space..it is one of the reasons I might have doubts about actually being an aspie.

The narrow interests...that is the only way I learned anything in school..I was too overwhealmed by my environment to pay attention in class...but I would become obsessed with various subjects and voraciously read about them...as a result I was a much better reader than anyone else in my class, and did really well on standardised tests..but was completely oblivious to what was going on in the classroom.

For the last several years it has been making sock creatures..I have made hundreds of them.
I have a website www.fluff.tv
But the pressure of making custom orders got to be too much..so I mainly make them for myself and only sell them occasionally.
I also sing a whole bunch. I have been in bands since i was 15..before that i was in a few small musicals..I sing alot..somtimes at inappropriate times..I sing almost as much as i talk sometimes
I do alot of what I call verbal stimming..(sp?) where I repeatedly say strings of non-sensical words...not all the time...like I am not doing it right now...(except sorta in my head)..but during large parts of the day...I make up songs about stuff I am doing in order to mantain my train of thought.
My current band is called Organ Failure
www.organfailure.org
Our lead singer/sax player is also neurologicly different..bi-polar with some schitzo tendancies.
I play guitar and ukulele...I looove the ukulele..it is my favorite instrument by far I take it with me everywhere I go..
I also live in and help run a multi-purposed performance and arts space..
www.superhappyfunland.com

Another thing is I can't drive...in fact riding in cars fills me with anxiety.

If I have any weird special skill, it is probably finding lost objects. I have a crazy knack for it..i might not recognise people's faces, or tell left from right, or remember where i set down my cup of coffee...but I can find a needle in a haystack.
I have a photgraphic memory, but only for the location of small trivial objects under big piles of other stuff

Anyways..sorry to ramble.
I have visited other aspie groups who did not take kindly to self-diagnosies..i am still trying to figure out if I count as an aspie..I dont want to be a "wannabe"..I would just like to find some people I can relate to.

You could be both ADD and Aspie - I've been diagnosed as both. A lot of what you describe is seen in both. Autism, Asperger's, ADD, ADHD, Tourette's, Savants, OCD ... now considered separate "disorders"/syndromes may one day be seen as a collective. (With a dash of this or that , and a splash of THIS ... or not. As from a smorgasbord :) ). Without an "official" diagnosis its a guess - but if you find yourself in these pages your guess is probably correct.

In the meantime, may I assist you with your clumsiness? I was TERRIBLY clumsy until I joined the Marine Corps. Your cerebellum may need some activity! Practice juggling with soft small bean bags. Practice balancing while standing on one leg, or walking - with eyes closed (only in safe obstacle-free areas :) ). Practice tai chi or yoga, and dance (at home in private, if you prefer) to music. Practice drawing with first one hand, then the other (it can be a simple object - circles or squares). Moving your body in new and different ways will slowly improve the circuitry in the cerebellum and cerebrum parietal motor areas. Keep practicing, even if you suck at it at first. Keep it up, especially if you suck at it at first! Improvements will come, albeit frustratingly slow. I've been doing martial arts for 30 years now. I only trip and fall twice a day now, as opposed to all day long. :)

Good luck, and welcome!

Thanks.
I wasn't sure if a person could be both an ADDer and an Aspie.
I definitely need to do the stuff you describe..it's good for my mental health too.

Your name is funny. I don't "toe walk" but I drag my feet.

I drag my feet too sometimes! In fact one time a lady yelled at me at the post office for it.."Pick your feet up, Girl"...as if it was any of her business how I walked.

I seem to remember the horrible leg cramps in the night, not being able to force my heels down, shadows on the bedroom wall with my mom and dad trying to figure out why I was 'doing that again, I thought she grew out of that.' I remember trying to tell myself to force my heels down when I walked but my calves were held in rictus and hurt so badly. No wonder I held my hands like I was holding up a wide skirt as I learched from one leg to the other, holding my mouth just so. . .
wow, I had no idea !

Sometimes I get awful charlie horses..man, I hate those with a passion.
I remember really bad night leg cramps too...as a kid..maybe those were charlie horses

Do you still do it?

I did it all through growing up..Had no idea how to stop because I did it unconsciously..I am 31 and it is still part of my regular gait...maybe 70%flat 30% tip toe...I try to stetch out my achilles tendons...having constricted tendons makes doing certain yoga positions really difficult...like downward dog...It makes running very difficult too...the upside is Imy feet are strong enough that I can go on pointe like a ballerina if I was wearing toe shoes

I was made fun of for it something fierce. It just added to the general overall weirdness of my being.

I remember when i was a kid I had some neighbors down the street who had a very young daughter who seemed to developing a little differently...slow to speak..frequently held her hands straight out to her side like a cabbage patch kid...had a funny way about her...and she started walking on her toes and I think they resented me thinking that she was copying me (i had sorta bonded with her)...but I don't think so.

yes, my mom took me to 'toe dance' back in the early 1950's, it was quite the fad, then. Not ballet because I couldn't do ballet before I was 7. But I did get up on my toes ! I was on my toes but I could not dance, I clumped along at a gallop and flailed about to the music. Over the years I improved, but always worked on 'routines' by myself while the rest of them had gym, but that brings me up to 11 years old.

Yeah, at night my calves start to twitch and the muscles shorten. I use naproxin sodium to keep the inflammation down, cause that inflammation can hasten Altzheimers causing plaque in the brain.

I remember losing feeling in my lower legs in the night when I was little, and getting soooo cold, I would hobble out to the dining room and turn on the forced air heater and sit in front to have the hot air blow over my calves and knees. My folks knew I did it, because I would catch it for leaving the chair in front or the furnace on when I crept back to my cold bed. Several years later they bought me an electric blanket and I was in heaven!

I have some freckles..but altough red-headedness runs in the family, I have very dark brown hair, which i wear in braids..when it is long enuff...i also wear alot of wigs...when I wear socks they are usually mismatched, but I don't like the feeling of socks....but I happen to own hundreds and hundreds of pairs of them..which I don't wear...I hoard them to make into sock creatures..(one of my main obsessions)
I don't have a real pet monkey, but I make sock monkeys and have a pretty decent collection of them.

Welcome from a fellow clumsy toewalker, with curled fingers as well! I was diagnosed with mild Cerebral Palsy as a kid and had years of physiotherapy which really helped
