Resident Evil 7 Announcement

Resident Evil 7 was completely absent from E3 this year, and there was not even a hint of hope to see it. However, it has emerged that the game will be announced at TGS (Tokyo Game Show) this coming September. No "official" release date will be given, but the game will be out in all territories before the end of Q4 2014.

That may seem like a long wait from now, but Resident Evil 6 only came out last year. Only two years between the two games.

Resident Evil 7 has been in development since the mid-way point of Resident Evil 6, and was supposed to come out this year, as Capcom had plans to annualize the franchise. However, due to such negative feedback on the 6th instalment, the company has made the decision to change several aspects.

Little is known about Resident Evil 7, but here is what I have learned from my sources.

> Resident Evil 7 will involve Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine.

> Barry Burton WILL make an appearance in the game.

> Albert Wesker WILL be in the game, however, he is ONLY in a flashback in Jill’s head.

> The setting is going somewhat back to its roots. Survival, and not so much action.

> The story involves all steps retraced back to the start.

> Part of the game takes place on the grounds of the Mansion in Raccoon City.

> The game is still Co-Op based, both online and locally. Up to 4 players can play the same game at once.

> The game will NOT be available for PS3 and Xbox 360. It will be released for PS4, Wii U, Xbox One and PC.

> The Wii U gamepad serves as the inventory, allowing for quick access.

> The start of the game will be delivered differently than most games.

> Although the game is primarily Co-Op, you do NOT start with your partner in the same area. You will be literally playing up to four separate games for the first 30 minutes.

> Claire and Chris are Partners. Leon and Jill will be partners.

> All 4 players will meet together near the beginning, but then split into two groups (noted above), only regrouping a few times.

I'm waiting for it. Are you?
Is this the final chapter?

Do you think this sounds genuine or made up garbage?

The novelty of it faded. I like it but doesnt seem new or cutting edge anymore.

They need to reboot the franchise and go back to survival horror roots. The story is now way too convoluted, and I don't like the COD gameplay clones that have been released recently.

The last true RE games were Code Veronica and RE0.

edit: On second thought, maybe this IS a reboot. Part of this game will take place in Raccoon City. Wasn't Raccoon nuked to smithereens at the end of RE3?

I'm with Zero Punctuation on this one. Resident Evil 4 is "The One Which Doesn't Suck", and that's because it tries to avoid the silly overarching storyline. It's no coincidence that the worst part of Resident Evil 4 is when Krauser and Ada show up and start referring to the nonsense of the other games.

Resident Evil 7 needs to have a specific zombie-like threat, in a specific place, with just a handful of characters. The characters can be established characters, but they should not have flashbacks, they should not go into their history with each other, and under no circumstances should they refer to Albert Wesker. The story should be self-contained.

It's a game review show at The Escapist. During one of their reviews (I think the review for Resident Evil 6?), they described Resident Evil 4 as something like "The One Which Doesn't Suck".

It made an impression on me, since it made me realise that it's pretty much how I think of Resident Evil 4. I only play other Resident Evil games because I fool myself into thinking they might be like Resident Evil 4. They never are.

I like the sound of that. Resident Evil 4 was good, but a lot of it's mechanics and introductions are what made everything that came later suck. Like turning it into a shooter. As far as I'm concerned, the one that doesn't suck is still RE2. Going back to that will be sehr gut.

RE1 remake is my most preferred resident evil game to date.

I can see what you mean by that. Resident Evil 4 managed to pull off a miraculous balancing act. In in terms of gameplay, it is basically a third-person shooter, but it somehow feels like a survival horror game. Sometimes you find yourself mowing down dozens of enemies with a machine gun, but you are also genuinely frightened that the enemies might get too close or do something unexpected.

Maybe it was tempting fate for Capcom to try to make lightning strike twice. Especially with a different development lead.

To me The Last of Us is exactly the sort of game I'd always hoped the genre would evolve into. It had action aplenty, but the ability to defend yourself was balanced with scarce resources and enemies that could kill you very easily if you weren't completely aware of your surroundings.

On the other hand, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is equally satisfying a game for me, in a similar genre but with a completely different direction. Incredibly scary, possibly the scariest game I've ever played, with very old school gameplay mechanics. Much looking forward to the sequel.

Resident Evil however is just ridiculously cheesy, with a bonkers plot and characters I don't really care about. And despite having had several attempts to get it right, unlike the aforementioned games the controls have always been incredibly bad.
