Nothing new. They are just getting comfortable in letting us know who's boss. Been like this a very long time. :(

I take some comfort from my belief that in heaven the rich are just commoners.

how do you persuade the "low information voter" to put aside his or her petty hatreds/resentments long enough to vote for the common good?

information, lots of it. I read and share "mother jones" and "the nation." I'm a member of "public citizen." there's also "common cause."

Get our country back? It has always been ruled by an oligarchy (property owners, people with capital). America is freer and more equal now than it has ever been.

The problem is that greedy bastards don't care about the common good and our system is designed to let those people have free reign. America is an individualist country. That is what individualism means. The individual is more important than the common good.

Go to a socialist country if you want something other than every man for himself.

Or you can go across town and destroy all of the rich people's property (making them poor, so everybody is poor). It still ain't going to make you any less of a peasant. We are cows grazing for our corporate overlords. Everyone is (even the oligarchs). Deal with it.

whoever they invest capital in--hence the term capitalism.

money flows throughout the system. It is bigger than any individual or class of individuals. every person plays their part in it. we keep it going whether we want to or not. the only way not to contribute to the system is to never spend money, to be completely self-sufficient and off the grid. By the way, I strive to spend as little money as possible just to rebel against the system. I resent being a cow in the pasture of our consumer society. too much waste and too much narcissism. we define ourselves too much by the items we consume. It is just what the overlords want. I don't like being exploited. I don't like to be used for someone else's purpose, unless I am well-compensated and knowingly consent.

when one is poor, one does not contribute to the system by default due to not having any money to pay for stuff in the first place.

Unfortunately, those same people get their news from Fox, which tells them that real democracy rests with gun rights, homophobia, fear of whites losing their majority, voter ID laws, and the notion that the poor only need to emulate the rich to become successful.
