I am a writer and I have done several fanfics and posted them on a few websites for that type of writing. I have mostly gotten lots of people who like what I write. In the past people have been more courteous with me.

I happened to create a story this time and posted it on one of the sites. I had gotten a lot of dislikes on it. This is while some of the people decided to leave little hints why they thought it was bad.

1. By making a few short statements and putting an emoticon of frustration on as well
2. One person posted a clip from a horror movie
3. Someone else posted an insulting picture
4. Other people told me to delete the story and that it was a waste of time.

I did not like what they said and did not find their comments helpful so I started removing their comments, blocking them, reported a few of them, and told them "If they can't say something nice about someone who is trying to work hard on her ideas then don't say anything at all. If you can't give me constructive criticism on this then leave me alone."

They got mad and attacked even more by blaming me for being rude to them. I was not not even swearing at them or calling them names.

I want to know how I was in the wrong this time.

They are internet trolls, they have nothing better to do in their lives than to make fun of people under anonymity.

You have done nothing wrong, although I would advise not responding to the bad comments. Deleting them is fine but never respond to them because they like to feed on people's emotions.

What about quietly reporting them?

*Sigh* that is the internet for you. Because people hide behind a screen with a false name and identity they say things they usually wouldn't have the guts to say right to your face. Just about everything about me is troll bait -over 30 years old, female, overweight, likes video games, toys and cartoons, hates racist or sexist comments. Most of the time I don't even read any replies made to me on Youtube because I'm sure they would make my head burst into flames. I even feel weird when someone makes a positive comment or reply to me.

I started asking a few of them reasons why I needed to delete my story. One of them said that most of the people in that genre did not care for m.y type of OC and that they got everything

There should be a report button somewhere, just do that and not say anything and you'll be fine.

What they did is now standard behavior on the Internet, so they probably think that you should just accept that form of criticism, and that you are being unfair or overly sensitive if you do not accept it. It doesn't seem like you are in the wrong, you just have different expectations for behavior.

There is a group on the one of the websites that is people submit stories to for the sake of laughing at them and making fun of that writer.

I have been there and so far most of the people in that group are pretty nice and have been put down too. They get used to it and connect with others.

As for my story it got taken down and is now posted on a few other sites. I am looking for people who are willing to help me.

I don't mind constructive criticism on my fics very much, (even if I don't get them very often). But I just see it as a way to improve for future things I write so I don't go and end up making the same mistakes...

However, these kinds of reviewers just make me want to bang my head into a wall:

Quote:
Go Duncan go!
Screw Scott!

DuncanxCourtney 4 EVER!

This was a recent review I actually got on one of my stories, nothing really constructive about it, but just someone whining over the fact that I had made this fic to be pro Scourtney, and somewhat anti-Duncney... I swear, I hate the Total Drama fandom sometimes.

I wrote a fanfic based on the life of an optional character that had nothing to do with the main characters from the show.

That actually sounds like a fairly interesting premise/idea. Many people have done fanfics of this kind before.

It makes sense that constructive criticism can help you.,

But if what you say is true, if they just said 'take this down!' and posted videos of horror movies and other garbage, than it's true - you were not wrong/did nothing wrong, they are behaving rather pathetic.

Heaps of people hate Original Characters. There's nothing you can do about it. Maybe just put a warning at the beginning of your story.

And sites that take submissions to laugh at are just run by really insecure people. They have to make fun of people because they're terrified that's what everyone thinks about them. Although, I'm not sure how they think making fun of other people would negate that...

One account holder on the site posted a regular emoticon and then left short statements. This included making little hints at my name and then put down the picture of my idea of the OC.

I ended up blocking him, reporting him, and saying this via PM
Hey listen:
I know you don't like my story and I am sorry that you feel that way. Unfortunately you need to be careful because what may be innocent to you may be hurtful to others. If you can't say something nice or helpful don't say anything at all. Besides maybe you're jealous of my ideas because you don't know how to come up with something creative.
Just so you know I reported you.

I also posted this exact reply when they appeared to make those comments about my name, story and oc picture.
If you can't give me and constructive criticism then you can't post on here anymore.
If you want to be a writer then you better learn how to respect where others are coming from and not insult them. This type of thing is very immature.

This is what they said:
The irony. You say to respect others, then report and call me immature.
You didn't even allow me to give constructive criticism. You just reported me before I could respond. It's clear you don't actually care for my opinion.
As for your idea that I am "jealous of your ideas because I don't know how to come up with something creative":
1. Take a look at my stories: I wrote two of them within the last two weeks. Clearly I can come up with something creative.
2. I'm not jealous of you. I'm quite happy with how my stories are doing.
3. This is my personal opinion, but it's shared by many others on this site: Self-insertions are not creative. If you want me to give you a logical reason why, PM me.
And I can give constructive criticism. You are (congratulations) the first writer to report me.
90% of authors I have negatively commented on have listened to my criticism, and have tried to improve. You fall under the 10% who either ignore me, delete comments, or in your case, report me.

I tried to apologize and everything and this person continued to assail me with humiliation

What is a "regular" emoticon? What do you mean by "little hints at your name"? It's hard to understand what is happening here.

Maybe you should take your own advice, because this:

Quote:
Besides maybe you're jealous of my ideas because you don't know how to come up with something creative.

Isn't nice or helpful.

An emoticon is something like this :D, or this

Also the third comment that you quoted was from the other person. I originally asked if they were jealous of my ideas to begin with and insulted me.

I'm really tempted to switch off my guest reviews, because most of them are just pointless, like this:

Quote:
:Honesty total drama all stars just further proved that duncan and gwen were not meant to be a couple. He will always care and have a thing for courtney

Seriously, I'm getting a little sick of receiving reviews like this. There's more to stories than just the freaking couples themselves!
