So, I think I start with hi.

[As a warning: I write a lot. I'm sorry.]

My most recent diagnosis has been HFA. Since that has happened repeatedly before the DSM5, we just go with that. When people talk about autism, they often speak of the concept of an uneven profile of abilities. That really seems to be me.n I mentioned somewhere else that when I moved to Boston officially about three years ago, even though I'd been coming here most of my life, it was basically a traumatizing amount of change.

The struggle to get the hang of public transportation was unreal. I still actually only really have the hang of certain routes. To go some place I don't know I have to use a couple different "planners" and write down the directions in my notebook precisely. If I miss the bus or whatever i kind of freak out and need to ask people. Luckily, a lot of other people don't get the MBTA either, and generally the bus drivers are happy to help.

I am still working on the finer points of laundry as well. As in... that I actually need to do it. But also- there is more than one setting on the washer and the drier each. I realized at one point that hot might make everything look either grey/blue [I wear mostly blue/green/grey kind of colours]. So now everything goes in cold. I know hot might clean things better, but there doesn't seem to be a specific rule book for what can go in hot when- there's no flow chart even. My mother is always changing her answer, even for the same article of clothing.

So everything goes in cold. Everything goes in the drier hot. I hope things come out the same color and the same size. If they don't, it just wasn't meant to be.

But really, regardless of specific DX, I be what I be and that be me, yes?

I'm 31 and have a great interest in pharmacology. I tend to read prescribing information sheets for entertainment. I also enjoy psychiatry in general, and have basically been studying psychology well over the past decade, over the past seven years or so formally [though, of course that doesnt mean I have my degree yet *facepalm*].
I have three PDRs, two DSMs, am desperately trying to save up for the third. I have entirely too many books on anything that even tangentially has any thing to do with the brain.

I am on leave from school, yet again, but I really think this is the last time. I've had on and off physical health issues most of my life, but we've most focused in on what the problems are at this point, so may be able to develop a good treatment plan and I can finally finish up my bachelor's in psych, minors in art therapy and biology. [They DO go together I swear! haha]

The studying psych for so long and being entrenched in science PLUS art has kind of aided me in dealing with people. I also like to think my sense of humour has remained well intact. That helps too.

When in doubt I put up front that Im an idiot in terms of dealin with people and make light of everything before anyone else can. It's pretty amazing how far humour can go to make everyone else comfortable and disarm them.

Someone down the thread list mentioned MBTI personality type, I guess I can mention that briefly. I find it interesting.

I have taken these a few times through out the past ten years or so because of school and various other reasons.

I always come out either INFJ or INTJ though often really close to the other.

I identify with both really well. Which is confusing, but it actually makes sense to me.

"As an INFJ, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you take things in primarily via intuition. Your secondary mode is external, where you deal with things according to how you feel about them, or how they fit with your personal value system.

INFJs are gentle, caring, complex and highly intuitive individuals. Artistic and creative, they live in a world of hidden meanings and possibilities"

"As an INTJ, your primary mode of living is focused internally, where you take things in primarily via your intuition. Your secondary mode is external, where you deal with things rationally and logically.

INTJs live in the world of ideas and strategic planning. They value intelligence, knowledge, and competence, and typically have high standards in these regards, which they continuously strive to fulfill. To a somewhat lesser extent, they have similar expectations of others."

I also am into art-specifically acrylic painting and ink drawing- and music and neurology and logic [one of my favorite classes] and SRV and motown and doowop and playing with the ridiculous amount of super cheap clearance makeup that I own but rarely wear in public and I take too many selfies for some reason that I think has to do with prosopagnosia because I don't often immediately recognize my face so it's kind of novel every time I see it.

Endnotes for conversations sake if anyone is looking for some one to chat about these things:
*I have temporal lobe epilepsy. This tends to result in hypergraphia a lot, particularly when the seizures are acting up, which they have been lately. [Can you tell? haha] The hypergraphia is not crazy out of control like vangogh or anything, but I feel better when I write. So I do a lot of it. I REALLY apologize in advance and I feel self conscious about it.

*I will totally talk to anyone anytime about anything to do with the brain in any sort of manner. Just.. don't get me started if you REALLY don't want to have the conversation haha. I love brains!

*I have a connective tissue disorder If anyone wants to commiserate and whine and moan about this kind of thing because everyone in their life has been driven crazy already, please PM me. This diagnosis is relatively new and I'm kinda RAWR ANGRY DINOSAUR about my health in general.

*I like traffic lights But only when they're green. Just sayin'

:)

I know that was so long.
Sorry.
Thanks if you made it this far.

Yep....It seems like you get resurrected every day!

I should read more about the brain; maybe you've inspired me. :D

Have you read any of Courchesne's research? He deals with the brains of people on the Spectrum.

I put on an idiot persona at times as well.

Are you going to go for your Master's after you've achieved your Bachelor's?

Hello!

My personality and body might be similar to yours. :)

The only consistent letters on my Meyers-Briggs results are the IN. My most frequent results are INFJ and INTP.

And I have an unspecified connective tissue disorder. Diagnosed as a kid. I really hate talking about any injury I may have, so I typically hide them all. ("How did you hurt your wrist?" "Getting up from the floor"). People don't get it because it's not that common.

It would be interesting to see the results of your "hypergraphia." I would say, "go with the flow." If it's a raging river, so be it. Maybe we have another "Ulysses" on our hands?

Have you ever heard of the "Beat Generation?" Some of their writing, I believe, is hypergraphia caused by the ingestion of amphetamine-type drugs. Some of the writing really good.

Or: does it manifest itself in visual art? That would be interesting as well. Perhaps you could produce Dali-esque type works.

No ear-cutting, please--too much blood, and too much forms for those present at the ear-cutting to fill.

Not to make light of epilepsy--but there's frequently positives amid seeming negatives. Considerable creative production could potentially be realized during an epileptic aura.

I didn't understand exactly what you are expecting us to answer.
the most common mbti types in aspies are exactly INFP, INTF, INFJ, INTJ! Apparently more than 70% are intuitive introverts ;)

I have no expectation.
I was introducing myself.

I didn't think there was any standard way I was supposed to do that.

:/

That's a pretty picture in your icon.

What's your impression of Jamaica Plain? We have a Jamaica in New York as well. And Vermont. I think it's a Native American name.

Have you done neuro-research?

Great post SignOfLazarus.

And you don't have to apologize for the length, its perfectly fine (you should see my posts on youtube sometimes, some people even told me it was tedious to read them because they are so long, another told me I was "drowning him with facts" lol).

I would like to comment a few things you said.

Quote:

When you said this it made me think of Sinead O'Connor's CD, called "How About I Be Me (and you be you)?"

I am also into arts and music, and have always been interested in psychology. I never studied science tho (apart from a few classes when I was in college), but I am always interested in reading about it. So if you ever feel like giving us a speech about the brain I'm ready to listen lol.

And this reminded me of the time I decided to put my mother's wool shirt in the dryer, it was normal size, and it came out 6 year old kid size lol.

Great strategy!

And welcome to WrongPlanet :)

I started to get sucked into neurological sciences, but then quickly got side tracked into the vast realm of psychological theory. I am especially drawn toward the patterns in irrational behavior, group and organizational psychology, and lately I've been sucked into B. F. Skinner (although I find a lot of what he says to be a little far-fetched).

My neurophysiology and neuroanatomy kick intially started when I was first diagnosed with bilateral temporal lobe epilepsy, but I'll probably end up jumping back into it soon, as I'm beginning to run low on psychology schools of thought to delve into, and I'm current on my main obsession in the world of theoretical physics (which has some pretty amazing things popping up at the moment).

Here's help with the laundry:

Spray stain remover spray on all stains before you throw it in the basket. The longer it sits, the better (up to the point that it grows mildew, of course).

Wash everything in cold water.

Dry everything on low heat.

Except towels and bedding. Wash it in hot water. Dry it on high heat.

Fold it and put it away, right away. Don't wait until you have a big pile of laundry.

Done.

Heh. I appreciate the advice.
It's not that easy.

In part because this bit:
Quote:
...I've had on and off physical health issues most of my life, but we've most focused in on what the problems are at this point, so may be able to develop a good treatment plan...

has turned out to be entirely too optimistic. Apparently.

So...
