Hi. When I try to use either of these functions I get an error message telling me that I am trying to enter a restricted, members-only area. Could someone tell me why this is happening? I'd appreciate it.

The problem with quoting is curious because it seems to have worked Ok for you here:
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postp6277944.html#6277944
Are you having problems when trying to quote a specific post, or has this suddenly started since the post above?

The "Edit" button remains active on your own posts (it's not possible to edit another member's post) until they are more than three days old, when they become read-only and can no longer be edited - but the same error occurring with a post edit is also puzzling.

Does this error occur randomly or with a specific post, or is it something that always happens, irrespective of the post or its age?
It's possible that this is one of the many irritating and bogus errors which pop up due to unresolved (and unresolvable, unfortunately) problems with the forum software and in those cases, repeating the action will often succeed.

On posts that I've quoted I had to actually type out the [q symbols and cut/paste the other user's words, or log in from someone else's desktop computer where the button works.

I'd like to be able to use the edit button to delete my own duplicate posts since a delete button is not always displayed. I've been having this problem since I joined but another moderater has helped me delete a few dupes.

I'm beginning to think this may be another Note 2 issue that we discussed. :(

Ah, they're hand-built quotes. That explains it...

Hmm, yes - as you're able to log on from another device and use the quote button, it validates that there isn't something very weird happening with your account - so it does look like an issue with the default browser supplied with the Note; other members have had some very odd problems with the stock browsers on other devices too.

The delete button on your post "goes away", by design, once a post following it has been made.
What members generally do is edit duplicate posts back to say just "Double post" or "DP", and a moderator will tidy them away as they're spotted during general thread housekeeping duties.

Thank you! Since I cannot 'edit' I will just add a new post requesting that the earlier dupe be removed.

. . . or I'll fix it from a desktop. :)

No need to post a request to remove it - along with the posts already flagged as duplicates, we also remove duplicate posts as they're spotted - flagged or not. 8)

The edit button seems to be missing?

I can't edit posts I made at the gym just a few hours ago, which I often need to do as sometimes the touchscreen keyboard there is very wonky and unwieldy. There is a backspace button but no directional keys so I have a hard time getting the entry point where I want it when I touch the screen, and sometimes the keyboard covers up the place where I'm trying to type, and sometimes I can't get it all the way to the bottom of the textbox.

So it would be nice to go back and correct my typo's now that I can actually see them and navigate the cursor to them. But I don't see an edit button anywhere today. :(

Let's test it. This post is otherwise meaningless.

Edit. It seems to work.
