You've never considered that the South is a pretty small portion of the globe have you? Anecdotes and more anecdotes, folks. It's a big world and let's admit it: problems like murder, theft, discrimination, etc. are all thanks to more basic elements of human nature than religion and credo. You can find terrible abuse practically everywhere in history regardless of whatever label they slapped on themselves. It's a competition for identity, for resources, to shore up problems in your country, kingdom, tribe, or clan by dehumanizing some other group and focusing nervous energy on them.

Yes it is and does it is a justification to the vilification of minorities and things they do not understand like Homosexuality is a sin and those with mental disabilities are possessed with demons. Masturbaition is wrong and sex before marriage is wrong as well etc etc etc. It merely encourages people to only marry for sex only later on realizing that their partner isnt satysfying enough and leading to a divorce in 2 years or remaining miserable!

Hmmmm... I don't have a hard time at all thinking of atheist countries like that, hatred towards minorities, homosexuals, mentally disabled people. Hell, North Korea is still a real place even though it should have been shelled into glass a long time ago just to staunch all of the suffering.

Of course it's a small part of the world, why wouldn't I consider that? Relgious fundamentalists are a problem all over, and they are a nuisance wherever they are. They just use their religion as an excuse for bad behavior.

So let's turn N.Korea into glass, how very Christian of you.

His statement made me think about a book I have read last week about Carl Schmitt. What Lukecash12 has written. basically fits with how modern just wars work, where the enemy is not someone who needs to be defeated, but an absolute evil (for example the Hitler of the month) that needs to be destroyed.

True but that does not mean that a Hitler does not occasionally emerge.ISIS for example, is Muslim in name only. They are almost universally hated by Muslims around the world.
Yep, they regurgitate the Koran but they have no understanding of it.

I wouldn't say 'almost universally loathed.' I think it's probably more like 90% or so: roughly the same as the proportion of christians who loathe the Wesbro Baptist Church. For the rest, well, I can imagine a lot of American Evangelicals and Pentecostals flocking to an extremist group taking ground and setting up a 'Christian State' that would live by 'biblical laws.'

Who put you in charge of deciding who is a Muslim? Upon who's authority are you deciding that their interpretation of the Koran is wrong? ISIS is profoundly Islamic. Everything they say and do is religious in nature. It's their primary motivation.

Hmmm so genocide, rape etc are Islamic virtues? I am not a Muslim but I find your characterization of Islam offensive.

I'm not the one raping and killing and calling it an Islamic Caliphate.

So you agree with me that ISIS is Muslim in name only!
And you had the opposite opinion just 4 posts ago. What changed your mind?
Good grief, I gave you the benefit of the doubt but now I realize that you are an unrepentant bigot. So Sufi * etc are all genocidal rapists, its part of Muslim doctrine! 8O
* You really need to be more informed. Even anti-semitism is not part of Muslim doctrine. Just look at the middle ages. While we the "civilized " west had pogroms the Muslims respected Jews.
So to you ISIS, Rumi, the great Islamic philosophers, etc are all the same! I would add a smile icon to denote sarcasm but such a position is too repugnant for even a sarcastic smile.

Just because a person calls themselves a Muslim does not make them a Muslim. Similarly, a person that believes in God and calls himself an atheist is an atheist in name only.
And yes, ISIS is that outrageously ignorant and incapable of understanding the most simple syllogism.
Unfortunately, such mind boggling stupidity is common with us primates. I remember seeing a film clip of ss officers singing "oh Bethlehem ". UMM, those guys are too stupid to live.
Bethlehem was Jewish and Jesus was a Rabbi.
So they are thinking, we hate Jews and worship a Rabbi! DUH! Also, Christianity's history is full of anti-semitism. DUH again!

Religious does not equal Islamic. The Hadiths are a tradition considered to have equal standing with the Koran (yes folks, go read about it if you don't believe me), and while the Koran is not always so clear on the issue of violence the Hadiths tend to be explicit in their condemnation towards Muslims who are violent towards other Muslims that are not apostates. By definition ISIS is a group of apostates and they are profoundly not Islamic.

They would say the Muslims they kill are apostates.

It's easy for them to rationalize this, Jesus rebelled against the Jews and created Christianity, for which they (the story goes) killed him.
