Do you know of medications you would recommend (or wouldn't recommend) for dealing with the symptoms of asperger's /HFA and why?

I am asking this because I might start taking some medications for difficulties with concentration or anxiety--and although I know that any medication I take (or is prescribed to me) will have done well in trials on NT's--I want to know if there are any differences with AS/HFA. Thanks in advance.

Well, Risperdal always worked for me, but that's like saying that yelling helps get your point across better. Other medications were worthless.

That's funny. I have no idea what you mean, but it's funny.

strattera worked very well for me [aside from GERD]- i felt nearly normal. the anxiety went away and i felt much more on top of things and amenable to life in general. it made me feel like my IQ went up by 30 points.

Ritalin worked well for me...then some bad stuff happened.
Meds that help you focus work well for people with AS/HFA. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to find the right med for you.
How I miss being motivated to do things and actually care enough about people to talk to them. And I wasn't in this stroppy mood constantly.

I took Lyrica since I was diagnosed, which was a life-changing moment - I really can not say how much Lyrica contributed. I have found crowds, social stuff, noise and sensory overload much easier since the diagnosis and being told that these (predictable) things were the cause of my anxiety.

I also use a small dose (2 mg) of Diazepam (Valium) when I feel that anxiety is too great. This has a helpful feed-forward effect, in that calming anxiety makes the next day much easier, even without the drug.

I took various anti-depressants and some anti-psychotics over several years before diagnosis, without any good results.

I have found that Invega and Zoloft have worked wonders for me. Also, when I get anxious, I take Ativan, which is a wonder drug.

I hope this helps you. :)

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I currently don't take any meds, but I do meditate which may help, although it is difficult to self evaluate.
