I would like to propose the existence of a subforum to discuss the advancement of the space industry, the colonization of space, and the conquest of the universe.

Seriously dudes, I mean this. I would like a subforum about spaceflight. I can easily provide links and further sample thread titles if requested also.

Some sample topics:

Longevity and Interstellar Spaceflight
Space versus Politics
Orbital Economic Infrastructure

Some sample potential thread titles:

Space elevator construction
Orbital shipyards?
Logistics of cargo transfer
Space-based agriculture
Civilian transportation
Potential for space-piracy?
Strategic placement of defense stations
Feasibility of manned deep space stations
Terraformation of Mars
Colonization of the Earth's moon
Mining of the asteroid belt
Plasma propulsion versus Ion propulsion
Feasibility of interstellar spacecraft construction by 2100?
Solar charging stations at Venus orbit?

Etc.

It's a Doctor Who reference. Level 3 basically means anything at Earth level.

EDIT: Oops, got it wrong. Earth is actually a level 5 civilisation in Doctor Who.

So, if it were to be within a Dr. Who categorization scheme, a Level 3 civilization being spacefaring civilization and a Level 5 being futzing around in Low Earth Orbit civilization, what would be a Level 1 civilization within that paradigm?

Actually, the higher the number, the more advanced a planet. They mention an agricultural society as being level 2 in another story. I assume the Time Lords would be around a 10 or something.

a level 4 on the post-kardashev scale would be the ultimate thing to aspire to, and so that would be a good forum name.

I think the addition of this forum is vital to WP.

Probably not vital, per se, but it would be awesome to have a space set aside for the discussion of space exploration, colonization, and all the rest.

I've added a poll to the thread, please everybody use it (but only if you're going to vote "yes" :P ) I'll send a link to this thread to Alex via facebook in a week or so, unless it remains as stagnant as it currently is.

The sad thing is that we're barely a Level 1...if even at Level 1 yet.

I think part of that is due to the focus upon trying to "make everything right", which will never happen, instead of just finally going ahead and doing the necessary steps to become a spacefaring civilization. Have you ever noticed that in the planning phase of anything, everything seems to take forever but that once plans are made into actions rather than mere words that everything seems to take no time at all? Perhaps having helped my wife plan her and my wedding I see things this way, but really, I think the reason why it looks like we are so far behind is that we basically don't do anything.

Take it to the space forum. :p
