depends how old your child is. start when they are young if possible by giving them allowance and showing them how to put some into savings, some into one piggy bank to save for something like a somewhat nice toy and some for candy or whatever.
if they are older then you could go through your financing with them and show them how you do it yourself. or you could give them examples of how much each of the bills would cost, how much money they'd have and show them how to prioritize and cut things of less importance.
i learned to budget in highschool, it was part of both our home ec class and math class.

One year in school we had to do a project where we planned the least expensive Thanksgiving dinner for 100 people using coupons from different stores. Something like that gives a kid a good sense of how much things cost and the importance of comparison shopping!

If you are anything like me, and your child is anything like you, he/she is very efficient-minded and frugal and might love being given tasks involving finding the best deals on things when you go to the store.

How old is your child?

When i was about 8, i really loved doing profit and loss statements and t shaped balance sheets. I still find it relaxing. sometimes i make up that i received x amount from a donation or i earn y amount from an imaginary job and work out how much morgage and tax i would have to pay on a z amount home and a w priced car. ect. IT IS FUN!

Maybe take your child to a basic accounting course at night school or get some accounting texts if they are old enough.
