According to a recent study at least

And some other older ones

It could mean a rather thin line between giftedness and autism.

I am a firm believer in the testosterone theory, but it's linked to much more than possible giftedness. It's also linked to left-handedness, a slew of neuropsychiatric disorders, and learning disabilities. I fit all the categories. There is no left-handedness or neuropsych disorders in my family other than myself, and I strongly suspect that in-utero testosterone is what caused my problems. My mother had a case of really bad poison ivy when she was pregnant with me, and she had to take steroids to get better. I believe that my brain problems may have been a result of this steroid treatment. Also, I'm a female with no genetic link to left-handedness or Asperger's, so I think it's quite clear that my problems were totally a result of different brain development in utero.
