Has anyone ever heard of this incredible singer? She died from cancer about 15 years ago and after reading extensively about her, I'm almost positive she had Aspergers!!

She was described by others as painfully shy, stubborn, opinionated, and didn't like performing in front of people. When she did perform, she didn't really communicate much with the audience, although she did get better at this later on. She was also a bit of a loner, preferring to be with her music and art projects and considered her mother her best friend. She also had an important ritual to spend every Sunday with her mother (Aspies love rituals). She wanted desperately to connect with people but wasn't sure how to. She was also described as a very sensitive, naive, and innocent person, and at times, childlike in her view of the world. She also had no guile, which made it hard for her to lie. She was a gifted artist from around the time she was four...her drawings were very accurate for someone that young. Her artwork was also nature and animal-themed. She also had a natural ability for vocal harmony and could come up with amazing harmonies to complement her vocals. A lot of people can't do that.
She hated wearing dresses, high heels, and makeup and preferred to dress casually when she performed. She also worked in a plant nursery by day because she loved the outdoors and nature. A lot of people with AS love nature because it has a calming effect.
During her middle and high school years, she started to sense that she was different from everyone else. She was picked on a lot because she wasn't interested in sports, flirting, or wearing certain clothes. This made her very anxious and depressed.
She never cared for everything that went along with being famous such as money and the sexual exploitation of women. She wanted to sing simply because she loved it and never cared if she became famous or not.
She dated but had little emotional satisfaction in romantic relationships and there is a strong possibility she was also asexual. She even once said to her mother that sex ruins everything.
There was also an interview where her mother said she had trouble coping with all the things of everyday life because she was an artist, but I totally think its because she was an Aspergirl!

What do you all think? Most everyone agrees with me that she probably had Aspergers!

From what you describe, it certainly sounds likely.

I don't know much about her ... I didn't even know she was dead. I loved her singing.

The thing is, because she was a wonderful artist and singer, her differences often got overlooked and thats probably why she was never diagnosed (aside from the fact that Aspergers wasn't well known back in her day). When people with AS go into a creative field, no one seems to notice that they different and their differences are tolerated.

This one talks about how she loved rituals and her childlike view of things:
