Mine are space travel and typography. I'll write about typography for now.
Typography is the practice of designing fonts. Most well-known fonts are designed to be legible, although some are purely decorative. Some fonts do not resemble letters at all (Wingdings, for example).
To make a legible font, you have to appeal to how people read. Some people do this with serifs, although here is some doubt about whether this actually works. Some people use them to guide the reader's eye across the line, others usem to emphasize the ends and edges of the letters, but others say they were once used in stonecutting to make the letters even and are no longer useful. Others make their fonts legible by adding large ascenders nad descenders to b,d,f,g,p,q tso they can be recognized faster, or short ones to save space an make the other letters larger. Still others use ligatures, or connected letters, to make their fonts legible by making the space between the letters seem more even:
(from Wikipedia)
But my theory is that even the partial success of these methods is that the human mind is meant to read handwriting. It uses flairs at the ends of letters to guide the reader's eye, to emphasize the ends of letters, and to recognize the letter the way you would write it. One of my favorite fonts, which capitalizes well on this is Fertigo Pro.
If you want to see some of my fonts or download or make some free ones, check out FontStruct.
Lately, I've been getting into the interest of banking. Specifically, narrowing down efficient protocols to maximize profit through investments. As well as the changes we should make to the banking system, all while being the most economically efficient - as in not royally fudging up the economy .

The Air Force flies planes. Sometimes these planes have guns and bombs. The pilots shoot people the government tells them to shoot. They also drop supplies to needy people in war torn nations. The RAAF stands for Royal Australian Air force. Most air craft now have on board computers or avionics. I like learning about the different types of jet engines and weaponry different planes have. My favourite planes are the F-111 Ardvark (Pig/ Swing Wing), MiG-21, Mig-15, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Falcon, F-18 Super Hornet, Spitfire, P-51 Mustang and the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane to name but a few. Did you know that the faster it goes the more fuel it saves? That was very revolutionary for the 1960's.
The F-111's dump and burn. It dumps fuel and then releases the after burners, creating a fiery trail.
The Pig was replaced by the F-18. It's last flight was in 2005 in Australia.
Did I mention it was swing-wing? The wings could be swung back. It could also fly really close the the ground without slowing down.
I also like sci-fi like Stargate, Star Trek, Star Wars and lately I've been really into Doctor Who and The 4400. I write my own sci-fi too. I'm into astronomy/physics/neuroscience too. Science is cool.

Seems a Special Interest only lasts a few years as "Special", but while they're going on, they're all I _want_ to think about and work on, though the Real World does take up more time than I'd prefer. After they fade out from being "Special", I'm still interested, just not so much. Knitting and crochet for example, is something to do with my hands while I'm watching television, even though I no longer read about them, or think about them much, unless I'm looking for a pattern for a new project. When I find it, it'll just be my hands involved, not my brain.
As you can see from my age, I've been through quite a few Special Interests. My most current one is Aspergers/Autism itself, since I was only diagnosed (a surprise to me: I was never self-diagnosed, my daughter and the Mental Health Center where I was going for my antidepressants did it) a couple-three years ago. Probably my earliest ones were Indians and the Revolutionary War, before I was in elementary school.
I went through Aviation, with plastic models hanging from my ceiling, when I was in elementary, so I'm quite familiar with Mig 15s, Sabre Jets, and WWII aircraft, and Jennies and such back to the Wright brother's first, but haven't kept up with the newer ones, though very familiar with the space shuttles (wipes away a tear)-- which were also, of course, involved with Science Fiction, a continuing interest.

LOL, yes.
To be honest, I have MANY special interests, to the point I wonder if they deserve being called that.
