The online world is a pretty interesting place, and since getting my first computer when I was 8 I've seen some really fascinating stuff on the darker side of the internet. I don't know if there is a definitive 'sickest' video or picture but I have a few ideas. My first interest was in road and transport accidents and just kind of kept progressing.
I'm just wondering what the worst, most disturbing or shocking thing anyone here has seen. I can pretty much guarantee I've seen it, and I won't go into too much detail but stuff (I don't recommend searching them if you don't know them ) like '3 guys 1 hammer' or '1 lunatic 1 icepick' or videos of various acts of animal or child abuse, as well as beheadings/ executions and the all the gore and accident images out there, not to mention the disturbing stuff along the lines of '2 girls 1 cup' and that kind of thing. What's the most messed up thing you've seen or heard of on the internet?

You are very young. I hope you never have the opportunity to see some of the gruesome things that exist on the internet. I have seen plenty of things online that make me thankful that censorship still exists in some small corners of the world.

My buddies used to browse that rotten site so many years ago and I saw some fairly disturbing things on there, I've been going online since I was younger too and I have seen some messed up stuff, animal abuse, human mutilation/violence and deprived mature images. I think the animal abuse ones always bothered me the most though, I would rather not mention them by name. This also bring to mind some ongoing web comics that are really messed up I have happened upon, and a lot of really wtf fan fiction or whatever other creative outlet that people express through and just let all their dark weird perverse imagination go free.

Like I mentioned, some of it bothers me, other things are just more strange/wtf then harmful. You'd think that I would have been desensitized after so long but no, violent images still disturb me to this day.

To me, a video showing Chinese women chopping human babies into pieces and throwing them into big pots of boiling water to make soups. I no longer go in search of weird things on the internet. That video was on one of those bizzaro web video channels. I didn't search for something like that.

Kitten porn makes me cringe. When I see the internet flooded everyday with "cute kitten videos" it makes me want to scream

Worst idea for a thread ever!

The most disturbing thing I've ever seen on the internet is uncensored war photos/ footage.

I have also been disturbed by the successful marketing of anarcho-capitalist ideology, online.

The fact that an eight year old saw that stuff and describes it as 'a pretty interesting place'

I don't know, I think some of the videos by Abu Headcase al-Bedsit and his chums are pretty disgraceful.

The other ones are pretty disgusting, though. Particularly the murder of kids.

I saw one from an Italian TV station, where a former football manager dropped dead during a live phone-in.

Seems pretty tame compared to the above posts!

How is it inappropriate? I thought the 'random discussion' board is for just that; if you knew you could be bothered by something in it then just don't click on it, no one is forcing anyone to read or look up anything here, its simply just another discussion for people if they want to take part in it. I just don't see how any topic is inappropriate to be honest, if you don't want to talk/read about something, don't.

The most disturbing thing on the internet? That would have to be how the number of utterly dumb and lazy minded people is growing at a staggering rate (most of them Americans).

People who latch onto the most absurd misinformation and propaganda and then spread to other idiots without doing any research at all. Now that's disturbing!

But it's all be design, I suppose. People in the U.S. have been deliberately and systematically ?dumbed down? for decades, now. The end is result is a population of zombies playing with the latest gadget, discussing reality TV shows, and assorted other crap the media tosses their way.

And it's all by design, of course. Those in power don't want citizens capable of critical thought or the desire to question the status quo.

Agreed. Why shouldn't this be discussed?

I'd argue it might be more "appropriate" however in the "Adult Autism Issues" forum, which doesn't seem to be restricted to topics about autism, and which could do with some counterbalancing to the endless sex-related stuff!
