The song Then she did... by Jane's addiction became my obsession in the last few months. I would listen to it three to four times in a row daily. I didn't really understand why I was so drawn to it. The music was interesting but I've never been too into alternative rock. Then it hit me. It describes the hole the singer Perry Farrell's Mom made in his life when she killed herself when he was four. The song didn't just pinch a nerve upon this realization, it grabbed onto it and twisted it. Not too long ago I had attempted suicide myself. This song is a dialogue to suicidal people. It doesn't give you guidance or tell you life will be alright. It simply says:
Will you say hello to my ma?
Will you pay a visit to her?
She was an artist, just as you were.
I'd have introduced you to her.
She would take me out on Sundays.
We'd go laughing through the garbage.
She repaired legs like a doctor on the kitchen chairs we sat on.

If anyone here ever feels suicidal, will you say hello to Perry's Mom? She was unhappy just as you were and ripped a hole in the lives of the people who loved her.
