Did you know that not all "girls" drink, themselves?

Shocked Surprised

how come?

not sure. i think that everyone needs to lose control in some little ways in order to stay sane, so if they keep themselves too tightly controlled i will wonder if there are control issues lurking there.

i've dated non-drinkers/smokers/etc though. it's just i tend to be a little suspicious at first if they are too "perfect"

If I may add something hyper mentioned sometime ago a story about a bad experience with a PUA and how he wasnt drinking so perhaps this has something to do with it.

As for the OP girls dont like guys who drink, girls like guys that can be open/funny/impulsive... and some guys do need alcohol to act more impulsively/stop worrying about what others may think...

I do not drink alcohol. It has never appealed to me. I don't like the lifestyle that goes with it, either. Do girls not see a non-drinker as a real man? It has never been a big issue for me, but whenever the subject comes up, people just can't seem to get over the fact that someone doesn't want to drink.

There are girls that have lots of bad past experiences with people that drink, whether that's with family members, exes, or other people in their life. The hard part is that there is no realistic way to spot them, other than they probably won't be at raves and nightclubs. I don't know if you are religious or not, but there are some girls who drink very little or not at all due to religious beliefs. But if you are not religious, a girl that won't drink due to religious convictions is highly unlikely to jump in the sack with you either.

I wish I knew how to find those girls. When I tell people I don't drink they assume I'm a recovering alcoholic, have a medical or mental disorder or they assume I'm religious. I don't drink because I was close to a girl years ago who had alcohol issues. Last I heard from her; she was bragging about how she drank so much she had to get her stomach pumped. I've been straight-edge every sense

That's me. Laughing I hate drugs, especially alcohol. If someone doesn't like me because of that, then that's all the evidence I need to know they're not worth being around.

Yes, I particularly don't like alcohol because of it making me lose my father, and I don't want the same thing to happen to my future children (which I'll probably never have), nor do I want to do any damage to myself.

did you lose him in the sense of death or in the sense of abuse?

my dad was an abusive alcoholic, and i did not drink for many years as i assumed i would be an alcoholic too (along with all of the other adults in my life). when my dad died he hadn't had a drink for a few years but the doctor didn't believe he was alcohol free as his body reacted like an alcoholic's after he had surgery.

now, i am taking a drink a day (when i remember) as it actually reduces my risk of heart disease by 25%. i finally realised that i don't automatically have to be an alcoholic just because my genes point that way. but i agree with you that caution is the best approach whenever possible.

Well once at college a girl called a boy a "f***ing weirdo" because he said he wouldn't get drunk on his birthday, so, yeah...

If I were that boy I would slap that girl. I don't drink and don't like it that much. Some girls, eg, like guys who treat them badly. Those guys' jerkiness turn them on. All sorts of "forbidden" acts guys do to impress girls like drugs, smoking, alchohol. I just don't get it. Why harm yourself to get a girl? You can get girls and do it healthy too!

exactly!

plus, I'm a person who appreciates good wine and quality cocktails (home made with fresh ingredients... yum!) and I feel bad when someone refuses to drink what I've made just out of principle (not unlike a chef getting irritated at vegetarians who refuse to eat his beef lasagne Wink). I believe in moderation- if someone doesn't drink at all it makes me think that maybe it's because they're unable to indulge moderately.

Alcohol is just empty calories. I don't see how people actually "enjoy" the taste. It's revolting. I drink to get drunk.

The reason I don't drink is because my brain is my most important asset, and it simply doesn't make sense to me to poison it. Also I'm afraid of drunk people. I'm okay with the fact that people drink, I just don't want to be around when they do, and I definitely don't want to put myself in that state. I think people tend to assume that this means I'm judging them, but I'm not. Just because I don't want to be a part of it doesn't mean I don't think others should have the freedom to. But in Swedish culture, taking a weekend off from drinking to do something else is simply not a thing that crosses people's minds. And non-drinkers are practically nonexistent in small towns.

^^I am also fearful of drunk people. I think it's because they tend to be more unpredictable than usual.

Going back to the OP, although I don't think I could have a relationship at the moment, if/when I do I am pretty sure I wouldn't be compatible with a guy who wanted to get drunk every weekend being that I don't drink at all myself. That's not to say that I would rule out someone who did drink but it would have to be in moderation I think. I guess it's also about the behaviour that might accompany going out with the lads and getting drunk. Also I think "going against the tide" as it were (and with my generation the majority seem to get drunk) can be an attractive quality in itself.
