My DS friend loved kissing. That sure made me not ever want to kiss anyone again I liked because it was so gross when she did it so I realized that is how others feel with me. Before I couldn't grasp it and why everyone was making a fuss and I saw friends kissing each other all the time in movies as a hello. Now I realize there must be a cue for it and I never picked up on it. So I don't kiss at all unless my mother asks for one or husband. I kiss my baby though.

One of the guys I played Dungeons and Dragons with had a son with DS he had to hug everyone who came to visit his dad. We had to call the cops one time on a guy who hut a parked car in front his house and drove off. His son walked outside and had to hug the two cops and the guy who hit the car and tried to run. Everyone was yelling but when he came out everyone stopped yelling so they would not upset him. I gues he is nature's little peace maker.

He should really give up on it if that is what he is trying to do here. He just sucks at it. We're just too rational to get very upset with him about it so therefore we will deal with it in a rational way than acting on emotions. We will either ignore it or argue with him in a rational way. He just comes off as very ignorant but this thread happened to be valid because DS and autism share similar characteristics and it sounded like a genuine question he asked.

But NTs on the other hand like at Babycenter would get so upset they be very hostile and mean and turn into bullies and spam his threads with pictures that are supposed to be insults and accuse him of being judgmental than trying to educate him and being rational about it.

Oops I think I just gave him an idea. :P

What happened when he would hug you? Did you still jump or hate it or was it exceptional?

I think the average is lower than that, although it is artificially inflated since Asperger's Syndrome is a diagnosis of autism that is reserved for people who had no speech delays and who have an IQ of 70 or higher.

Aside from the exclusion of those with lower than 70 IQ, the spread of IQ in people diagnosed with AS is, I believe, as expected for the general population. I have read things that indicate that AS can actually cause people to score lower on IQ tests for various reasons.

I also think people tend to overvalue IQ and have expectations of people based on their score (if known) that may be unrealistic or downright wrong.

Verdandi, I agree. Why do people consider IQ scores to be so important? Isn't what one is doing with their life more important than an IQ score?

Indeed. I also had very little support for my academic difficulties because the expectation was that I should perform better than other students, and my inability to do so was seen as a personal failing and not other stuff. It just can't give the whole picture.

My IQ scores were high so people thought I should be making straight As. Reality is far from that. I got a lot of grief over it. People thought I was lazy or not applying myself which is why I think there's more to it than IQ scores. I needed the skills to use what my IQ scores suggested I had.

Yes, that.

I also think my hyperlexia seriously inflated expectations. I was tested as reading at a college level, but I absolutely did not comprehend at that level. However, I was supposed to perform at that level and when I did not, I was made to suffer for it, and did not get help.

My number one challenge was dealing with the monotony of the work. I didn't have the patience to sit and do it. I would get bored and start drawing or find other distractions.

I've been doing some poking around in the journal databases, and found that the average IQ of people with Asperger's is not 120, nor anything close.

It tends to be slightly below average. This study found an average of 95.76:

Zander, E.; Dahlgren, SO. “WISC-III index score profiles of 520 Swedish children with pervasive developmental disorders.” Psychological Assessment, v. 22 issue 2, 2010, p. 213-22.

So those of you who think "I'm an Aspie; therefore I'm smart; therefore I'm superior" can get off your collective high horse now and join the rest of the human race. Not only does IQ not equal intelligence, but IQ isn't even elevated in Aspies.

On top of everything else, everyone expects more out of you if you score high on IQs. They get pissy if you don't live up to their expectations. High IQ scores can be just as destructive as they are constructive.
