And a complete insomniac... it's 1:43 am and I've been trying to sleep for 2 hours :(.

I think you can be an honorary member. Please come back!
BTW there are great drugs that you can take that cure you of the dreaded insomnia. I have been taking Klonopin to fall asleep for the last 5 years, and my life has improved. My insomnia had been life-long and nightly. My brain would race and do this downward spiral of negative thoughts. Having to not endure this nightly self-abuse has been very positive. I am far from overcoming my depression and anxiety, but at least I'm spared the nightly pain.

To Apatura, and other aspiring Dinos:

You may be allowed to join the Dino-Aspie Cafe on an honorary basis.

You will need to answer the following questions:

1. What do you do when there are three people talking to you and the fire alarm and sprinkler system are activated all at once?
2. What color jello grosses you out most?
3. How many aspies does it take to change a light bulb?
4. Would you be willing to feed us - the elder aspies - muffins? If yes, with or without butter?
5. What do you do with a raw egg?

You will be graded by the members of the cafe, in separate postings. 20 points per question, originality counts.

:D

I've been a-lurkin' in WP for a few months now. However, this would be my very first post... I so like your Dino Cafe I've decided to come in from the cold and have a muffin.

My stats: 51, female, permanently single, preside over a two-dog household. Oh, and a big spider. And a few orchids.

Stumbled across "AS" on Wiki; was a profoundly wrenching OMG moment for me. (That would be after sinking tens of thousands of hard-earned out-of-pocket dollars into "therapy" in my youth. Oh well...)

And here, on WP, it looks to me like I've finally found my tribe.

Wow.

Pour me a cuppa joe, please!

Cream and sugar, Lupine?

I'm the self-designated baker here, so lemme know what sort of muffins/treats you like. Or, if you feel like a little theraputic baking, there's an extra apron on the hook in the kitchen. We never turn down anyone's culinary concoctions.

What's your spider's name and a general description? Wouldn't want to carry your critter outside (prefer not to squash them, meself) unknowingly if he should wander in with you. :D

Welcome home, Dino.

Welcome, Lupine!

And the best part is, we're free! Except for the costs of computer and internet connection etc.

I'm glad this forum got you to step in from the cold (and I thank yowlingcat for the idea). It is a pretty safe place on a board that can be overwhelming at times. But here no mean words are said and we are all kind and accomodating. We all know what we've suffered in order to live in a world that we didn't understand.

I recomend perusing the "You might be an aspie if..." thread. It's humorous and enlightening.

PS I too have 2 dogs and (many) orchids. Dogs and orchids are two of my favorite things. One of the reasons I live where I do (Hawaii) is because orchids thrive here with no care. I figure if the climate is good for orchids, it must be good for me too :)

Goot eevenink! And welcome to the DA cafe!

Tonight, we're serving up weirdness, hot and cold. There will be a cover charge of 3 chickens. Eggs accepted, if fresh and free range. Please deposit either in basket by the front door. Try not to jangle the bell when closing said door - it upsets the chickens, and then they don't lay well.

Entertainment tonight provided by Mick Jagger's chauffeur; he will be singing requests, so bring your lists early, he prefers to be organized. Show starts at 10:00, please turn off your cell phones, otherwise they will be tossed into the incinerator.

Tonight's special is Lotus leaves with a vinaigrette dressing and a side of cannabis frijoles with green sauce. Desert is Dark Brown Sweet potato pie with chocolate whipped cream.

Try this link for an appetizer, it is made for Aspie weirdness: Random Good Stuff

Enjoy! 8O

Apatura, hi.

As you ponder The Five Questions ( ), wanted to second and add to Aylissa's comments re insomnia.

I've suffered from insomnia most of my life. It got really bad as I slid into my first major clinical a couple years ago.

Found that Lunesta helps hugely. It's newer than Ambien. I have yet to try Roserem, but I may the next time I need to refill.

I don't need to take Lunesta all the time, and yes, a good sleep without it is better than taking it, but ANY sleep is better than prolonged insomnia!! !! ! Spoken from true experience and empathy, mate.

I'd love to think that at some point in the journey here I won't need to keep a bottle of it on my self, but for now, won't be w/o the Lunesta. Talk to your a doc about it, A.

There's another effective medical remedy for insomnia and anxiety - tricylic antidepressants like trazodone or elavil. I've been on that off and on for panic attacks. Temple Grandin described her life on one of these in one of her books (can't remember which) and says it calms her nervous system - ditto here. It calms it almost too much for me, and has a bit of a "hangover" the next day, which can be great if you're having anxiety throughout the day which I go through periodically.

Good luck to all on a good night's rest, howsoever it may be induced.

DD: the spider's name is Rosy; she's brown with a pinkish cast ("rose-haired tarantula"). If you don't mind I'd love to grab the extra apron and cook up a stack of wild-blueberry pancakes; I even brought the real maple syrup! Aylissa, I take my coffee with cream... my orchids are all cool-growers (Cymbidiums, Coelogynes and the like); I live on the California coast and like to put them outside in the summer.

And my thanks to you, YowlingCat for the wonderful creative idea!

*BONK!*...*Ooof!*...*Bounce!*...*KER-Splat!! !!*

After years of falling through a very deep and strange rabbit hole, I finally reach the top. I climb out, lie down, dust myself off, slip on a "false smile" mask, periscope 360 degrees, make some fast calculations with my slide rule. Apparently I am under a cafe table looking at the very creaky legs of several exotic caffeinated/ alcoholic beverage drinking cake-and-spam eating Aspie dinos!. Peering into my lens are a very nice bunch of people who would probably appreciate my coming out from under the table. It looks safe to cast off the "false smile" mask here.

I crawl out from under the table, stand up on my own creaky 48 year old legs, and say "Hello!" to all.

Its been a long journey, so I'd like to just drink a tea, listen, and rest for a while. But here's my nutshell: was officially diagnosed Asperger's this January/ ADD last May. I'm new to chat rooms etc., and this is my first ever post.

Glad to meet you!

YowlingCat: Hi! Thanks for your wonderful cafe!

Lupine: Thanks for your courage! Persuaded me to land tonight as well.

DogDancer: Don't get the Roserem (melatonin)! New research shows that melatonin 8mg is not the correct dosage. Needs to be 16mg in a biphasic release (small initial release, followed by a large release appoximately 4 hours later). They're working on it, but not yet available. However, this IS the correct route to natural good sleep. Seems the pineal gland in the brain stops secreting sufficient melatonin after age 20.

Alissa: Hello!

Apatura: Hello, and thank you very much for welcoming me! I'm sorry that you cannot sleep. Reading my posts should knock you right out.
