Pottermore has finally gone up, and after I read J.K. Rowling's thoughts on Number 4 Privet Drive (it's right there at the very beginning), something was sparked in my memory. At the end of this little nugget, Rowling says: "For no very good reason, I have never been fond of the number four, which ...

It seems like ever since I learned about this disorder, I've been noticing things more and more clearly and my sensory overload problem has only gotten worse. I wonder if it's the power of suggestion, or if it's not just my imagination and is merely a hazard of an Aspie who's now pushing 30. Now, si...

"Hate" isn't a strong enough word -- I despise the telephone, I loathe it. What's worse is that I've never been able to pinpoint exactly why I take issue with it. It could be that, over the phone, people's voices come out fuzzy and distorted, and I often have the hardest time deciphering their moons...

When you have something that you love or enjoy doing, you will, inevitably at some point, want to share it with others. This holds true whether or not the person in question is autistic. And if that person is autistic, their hobby means the world to them; and if they can't share it, to some of us, t...

This read just lifted a weight from my shoulders. Thank you so, so much. I'm not the only one. Just one quick example from my own life: About four years back I was staying at my dad's place for Christmas Break. We found a collection of old VHS tapes we had used back in the '80s and '90s to record st...

Thanks, guys! Every little bit helps. I guess I forgot to mention, the comic strip I've been posting, Breaking the Mold , is in a college newspaper, but as you might expect, that's getting me absolutely nowhere. It seems like every time BTM has a chance at more decent exposure, something falls throu...

I'd love to go to Japan and polish my language skills, because to become fluent, total immersion in the language and culture are necessary. But there's a little thing called Hikikomori, which I fear I might fall subject to if exposed to Japanese society. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikikomori Also,...

Hi, everyone, I've been drawing and writing my whole life. It's always been my dream to get into some aspect of the entertainment industry, such as comic strips, comic books, or animation; or, if I can push myself far enough, writing novels. The problem is, the outside world scares me to death and I...

Long before I ever found out why I was the way I was, I had a number of run-in instances where I wound up looking like the village idiot. When I was around 5 or 6, I remember my family taking me to a restaurant. I don't remember what restaurant it was; all I can recall is that, despite it being a mo...

I can't remember if this is supposed to be an Aspie trait or what, but what the hey. I'm embarrassed to use the term "Aspie" cause it sounds really stupid. I wonder if that is an AS trait? LOL, yeah! I can't believe I forgot about that one. I hate having to say "Asperger's" or "Aspie" IRL since the...

I can't remember if this is supposed to be an Aspie trait or what, but what the hey. Just tonight, I was thinking about another little oddity of mine: I have trouble saying the word "beautiful," particularly when referring to a girl. I really have no clue why. Typically, I can use any number of diff...

Well, after a couple of days of building up the courage (since taking care of a dentist appointment etc. by myself is an unfamiliar thing, it was always my mom who took care of that), I finally sucked it up and went in to the dentist's office so they could assess the damage. Ten cavities, but at lea...

I sure hope you can be shy and have AS at the same time, because if not, logically I shouldn't exist. :)
But I think Yensid said it best: shy isn't always quite the right word. In many cases (including my own), shy can be an understatement.

Thanks, all. I actually have had my wisdom teeth out. In fact, that was the last, er, tooth-related thing I went for (I'm pretty sure wisdom tooth extraction isn't performed by dentists, technically), but still, my last actual dentist appointment was not long before that, and that was nine whole yea...

Have you talked to your parents about this? There really is no choice but for you to see the dentist, and soon. You cannot fix this with home remedies nor get out the electric drill to do your own repair. Oh, well, yes. Just for the record, I wasn't implying I planned to do my own dental work. :lol...
